Oh, yeah, this is a RECENT hate.

Someone writing in the Arab news wonders: Why do Americans Hate Muslims?

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

This guy would be a lot more convincing if my memory were not littered with images of Muslims burning the American flag and calling the US the “Great Satan” ‘way back in the 1970’s when Jimmy Carter, not George W. Bush, was president, or during the 80’s when Ronald Reagan, and not George W. Bush, was president, or even in the 1990’s when Bill Clinton, not George W. Bush, was president.

What were you thinking when you threw the Qur’an in the toilet or when you used religion as a means of torture? I fail to see the efficacy of such actions in the so-called war on terror. These methods only point to a deep sickness in your society to which it will take decades for us and the rest of the world to understand its cause and to measure its destructive results. No, the question which someday will have to be answered is why, why do you the Americans hate us the Muslims so much?

WHAT WERE YOU THINKING WHEN YOU DANCED IN THE STREETS BECAUSE YOUR CO-RELIGIONISTS FLEW PLANES INTO BUILDINGS AND MURDERED THOUSANDS OF INNOCENTS?

Shall we start there? America “hates” so many Muslims that it allows its sons and daughters to die to liberate millions of them from tyranny and oppression, but we “hate” them? America “hates” Muslims as they build schools and hospitals for them?

He’d be a lot more convincing if he were perhaps spending a little less time playing his tiny violin and a little more time addressing some of the more aggressive acts by Muslims toward America - you know, like maybe the taking of American hostages in the late 1970’s or the repeated attacks on our nation, interests or naval vessels, throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s or, you know…the BIG ATTACK ON AMERICAN SOIL in 2001!!!! Or, you know, the beheadings of American contractors, or, you know, the savage desecration of American bodies in Fallujah!

(Excuse me sir, did you SEE the desecration of those human bodies, human BEINGS, created by God, on a bridge in Fallujah? Did you see those photos? There were everywhere! And you’re whining to me about the possible desecration of a BOOK, a THING constructed by man, of ink and paper?)

He’d be a lot more convincing if somewhere he can show me a picture of a Middle-Eastern Muslim treating a non-Muslim child with the same tenderness and care as we see in that picture, above.

I don’t “hate” Muslims. But I don’t “love” them, either. Individually, I have known some very lovely Muslims who simply want to live their lives, raise their kids and get along in the world. We saw Muslim people voting for the first time in January, and we rejoiced with and for them.

But…we have a great big Mosque not too far away, and Muslims come to worship, park anywhere they want, inconveniencing residents, and after 9/11, not a single one of them offered a word of condolence. I don’t mean an apology, I mean a simple word of condolence to a grieving neighborhood in which they come to worship.

So, yes…there is a coolness, a distrust. If it’s on both sides, so be it, but you’ll forgive me if I don’t feel much sympathy for this man and his calculated, Newsweek-and-New-York-Times-assisted boohooing.

PS…just look at that little baby’s face - that wee little smile behind the binky! Those little feet! Don’t you just want to eat him up with belly-kisses? And the obvious care our soldier is taking not to disturb his sleep! I just love that photo!

UPDATE: For a related read, check out Michelle Malkin, who links to Kos and a few other bloggers from the left who are taking their cue from a news story with a very dubious headline (doesn’t match the lede) and which isn’t particularly interested in reporting on other pages of the FBI documents. You have to read Michelle’s whole post to see them, and I suggest you do so, because it is very clear that the press, in circling the wagons, has decided that the Newsweek narrative is the one they are going to promote, and they care not a whit that in doing so, they cause difficulties for our troops and give rise to the sort of silly and opportunistic carrying on we read above in the Arab News.

For a press that so doesn’t like war, it does seem that they’re fanning the flames of Arab hate for the US, doesn’t it?

UPDATE II: Sigmund, Carl and Alfred have a bit of a round-up on what is going on in parts of Europe. Although Europe is not lead by George W. Bush, and no Europeans have been accused of flushing Korans, the Muslims don’t seem to much like them, either. Note, also, the post below, re Oriana Fallaci being charged with daring to have a negative opinion of Muslims. Things are getting out of control in Europe. One watches the US press do their thing, both here and abroad, and wonders if they want things to spin out of control in this nation, as well, or if they are simply, completely, clueless - on such an “anti-Bush” auto-pilot that they simply cannot see the monster they are feeding.

    Well said
What were the Muslim prisoners in Gitmo thinking when THEY threw the Koran in the toilet? What were the bombers thinking when they deliberately target muslim children in Iraq?
We don’t hate Muslims, but the subset that loves tyranny and opression hates us.

Tony Snow read off interesting statistics yesterday that said Arab Americans have a higher income by far than the average American. They are usually able to attain an etremely high education level-much higher than average. They are doing better than in any Arab country! Yeah-that’s what hate will do to you. Treat you better than you could be treated anywhere else. Only in America.

  4. Sigmund, Carl and Alfred Says:

Excellent! Lets just say we can relate.

  5. Darrell Says:

Where are the “true” Muslims condemning every act of violence and terrorism? Where are the Muslims supporting their country, the USA, and turning in terrorists and Islamo-fascist they find in their community? German-Americans did exactly that during WWII.

Where I live, the local Muslims were driving around with Palestinian flags being held out their car windows and shouting “F*** America.”–I saw it myself. When some non-Muslims gathered peacefully holding signs that said we will not forget 9/11, and “USA,” the local media refused to show the home-made video of the “celebrants” they were given, and spun the story to make the peaceful Americans look like bigots and unreasonable fools.

  6. peggy Says:

I’m curious about the picture. Where did you find it and what is the story behind it?

  7. TheAnchoress Says:

Peggy, I wish I could remember. I saved that at least two years ago, and don’t remember the details. I believe this family was being moved out of harm’s way, but can’t remember the particulars.

  8. Victor Eremita Says:

It reminds me of another photograph–Tim Blair linked to it at one point–the little Iraqi girl who was killed in a suicide attack being carried away from the scene in the arms of a U.S. soldier. That one in turn was reminiscent of the photograph of the child killed in the Oklahoma City bombing, being carried away from the scene by a National Guardsman.
This one, though, is a much more cheerful picture–like the one of the young Iraqi man offering a flower to a female soldier, or the lines of people after voting.

I wonder how may people remember that on 9/12/01 we could have razed every city in Afghanistan to the ground and bomned the desert until it was glass and no one would have even tried to stop us.

I wonder how many people remember that on 9/12/01 or the days after, not one single Muslim died at the hands of an angry American populace. Not one.

I wonder how many remember that on 9/12/01 not one single Muslim nation rooted out their terrorist and presented them to us to do as their own law would have let us do and put them to death.

I wonder how many remember that on 9/12/01, though millions of Americans cried out for vengeance, we stayed our hand.

Hate? I’m afraid that the author and I have vastly different definitions of the word.

That’s what I like about you, Anchoress… your incurable optimism. ;-)

Do you really think they don’t care? Or on the other hand, do they care very much? This story, and the attention being paid it, are a weapon in their hands. I think they see it as very important indeed.
