UPDATE: Powerline points us to a much more “serious” defilement of the Koran that no one seemed to mind.

This is pretty interesting. I wonder if it will garner the headlines it deserves?

Pentagon says detainee retracts Koran allegation
The Guantanamo detainee who told an FBI agent in 2002 that U.S. personnel there had flushed a Koran in a toilet retracted his allegation when questioned this month by military investigators, the Pentagon said on Thursday.

The American Civil Liberties Union released the FBI document and a series of others it obtained from the government through the Freedom of Information Act. In other documents, FBI agents stated that Guantanamo detainees also accused U.S. personnel of kicking the Koran and throwing it to the floor, and described beatings by guards.

I’m sorry, I am really getting tired of this whole strange story. Someone “kicked a Koran?”

So what if they did? There, I’ll say it, SO WHAT? This is a crime against humanity? I know in EXTREMIST Muslim minds that might be true, and that some will use this as an excuse for Muslim hate.

This is a freaking war. Detainees trained to lie and do all they can to make life difficult for their captors DO NOT HAVE MORE CREDIBILITY THAN OUR TROOPS UNLESS THERE IS REAL EVIDENCE.

The press is going out of its way to “prove” that the bad old US Military maybe, might have shown disrespect to the Koran. Oh. Freaking. My.

This isn’t about anything other than the press trying to deliver Newsweek from their trespasses, even if it means - ultimately - that they are feeding a demented and murderous faction. What do they care? Precious few of their sons or daughters are in the military and will bear the brunt…and if this makes the Middle East less trusting of W, well, all the better, as far as they are concerned. Again, they are mindlessly, mindlessly, feeding a beast that is best left unfed. And this mindlessness warrants an inclusion into the “touch of evil” catagory.
