May 31, 2005Why yes, I’d luuuuuv to attend your Cotillion!Oh, I LOVE this idea. Mostly because I LOVE the idea of an old-fashioned Cotillion! Chiffon dresses that flow as you waltz…drinking things with your pinky in the air…ladylike ladies and gentlemanly gentlemen…I know it has nothing to do with Pride and Prejudice and yet…sigh. Egad, bring me Mr. Darcy! And so when Beth at MVRWC invited me to join her cyber cotillion, I just had to say, “why yes…yes, I WILL attend the dance!” Even though it is not your mother’s, or your grandmother’s idea of a cotillion. What exactly IS this modern-day cotillion? Well, it’s still a gathering, and women are still the engine that runs it, but instead of being a vehicle meant for the introduction of debutantes into society, you might call it a vehicle for the introduction of female bloggers. But I’ll let Beth explain: First and foremost, it is a celebration of the diverse voice that is the conservative woman. Not just one person can speak for us, and no one person should have that obligation. There are so many of us here and willing to share our thoughts and our ideas that it seems a shame that woman in the blogosphere have been outshined by the men. Name five women in the top twenty of the Ecosystem. Can you do it? Last February, Kevin Drum could only name three in the top thirty. Once again, the boys seem to have a headstart on this “blog” thing, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t show them a thing or two. This isn’t about making it an “us” versus “them” thing either, it’s just about celebrating and highlighting some of the best female writers that shine. Our intention is to be able to give the reader a wonderful place to start their journey into the feminine side of the blogosphere. And to show everyone that although we may not have the “links” of an Instapundit, we certainly have enough opinions to make up for it. We hope to stick around, not take ourselves too seriously and maybe just enlighten everyone about who the conservative woman really is… Sounds like fun. Because it is resolutely NOT about bashing the guys (I love the guys! So many of them are heroes to me!) or even competing with the guys, but simply about giving the smaller female blogs some exposure, and because it promises not to take itself too seriously, AND because some of these writers are so darned entertaining or provocative, I am really excited to be a small part of it. I also applaud Beth and her co-horts Jody and Jeanette for having the energy and enthusiasm to take on the job! The ladies have wisely chosen to spread the wealth and share in the linkage, so you’ll want to visit each of their sites in order to not miss a move! And to whet your appetite, here are some samples of exactly what sort of dishes and dances being served up at this little party! The slogan is, “Telling it like it is, in the nicest way possible.” Well, I’ll do my best, ladies, to live up to that fine sentiment. I don’t know how good that will be! Meanwhile, Congratulations on the founding of The Cotillion, and my your site meters burst into digits of pure bliss! UPDATE: Woohoo! The gals have been noted and linked to by la Malkin (we say “la” at Cotillions, do we not?). Good going, ladies! And I just luuuuuv Florida Cracker’s description of mass, synchronized ovulation!
