If you sprinkle when you tinkle…

I promised myself I wouldn’t write about Korangate and its subsidiary silliness, which involves the press doing all it can to prove that Americans routinely desecrate Korans and otherwise disrespect Muslims-who-murder.

An assertion that, uh, serves Newsweek, but not our soldiers or citizens, but I digress.

I wasn’t going to write about it because I really figured Charles Krauthammer said it all yesterday when he wrote:

Does the Koran deserve special respect? Of course it does. As do the Bibles destroyed by the religious police in Saudi Arabia and the Torahs blown up in various synagogues from Tunisia to Turkey.

Should the United States apologize? If there were mishandlings of the Koran, we should say so and express regret. And that should be in the context of our remarkably humane and tolerant treatment of the Guantanamo prisoners, and in the context of a global war on terrorism (for example, the campaign in Afghanistan) conducted with a discrimination and a concern for civilian safety rarely seen in the annals of warfare.

Then we should get over it, stop whimpering and start defending ourselves.

Yahoo! I love common sense!

Last night, however the Pentagon finally released its report. I read a few snarky remarks from members of the press, about how releasing the document after 5PM on a Friday was a tactic to avoid bad news being talked about all weekend…but as far as I can see, this report is not “bad news.”

Michelle Malkin has the pdf of the whole report and she is definately the go-to girl for clarity, fed-up-ness and links galore. She is also publishing the salient points within the report which the MSM are ignoring. (And she’s being fair, too - she applauds and links to this story at CNN with its headline: Detainees, not soldiers, flushed Quran. She does encourage all not to trust the MSM on this story, though, but to read the report for oneself.

So, it seems that one of our soldiers doesn’t have as good control over his tinkling as some others, and yes, it’s a shame that a bit of urine got on a Koran. I’m sure I wouldn’t want anyone spraying my breviary. But on the whole, this tempest has now officially blown its teapot.

I know that there are some in the Democratic party who are hoping to eventually get impeachment hearings going against President Bush, and I’m certain that the release of the “Abu Ghraib tapes” (and the trial of Lindsay England, who was not allowed to cop a plea) will be the NEXT storms on that front. But Korangate is not the baby that’s going to make their dreams come true. And what an enormous amount of energy has been expended because of an anonymous source who couldn’t even back up his first assertion.

These other tapes seem less interesting to the folks on the left.

Meanwhile, some bloggers are getting a few cute headlines out of it all:
URINE BIG TROUBLE NOW
THE ANSWER MY FRIEND (is blowin’ in the wind…)
Fifteen to Five: Terrorists Beat Gitmo Guards in Koran “Mishandling”
Kicking the Koran when it’s down. Meanwhile, LaShawn Barber has just totally HAD it and is gettin’ restless.

If you ask me, the Pentagon really NEEDED to get this report out earlier on Friday. The press has a responsibility, now, to put this story right and then, for heaven’s sake, let’s move on, already. Most Americans are sick to death of it and wonder why we’re being nice enough to give our prisoners Korans in the first place. I’m sure Muslims would not give Christian prisoners a bible Let’s put this sound-and-fury-signifiying-nothing to bed before anyone else gets killed!

Or, here’s an idea, maybe we can start paying attention to stuff like this. Ed Morrissey says it withgreat common sense and maturity: Short of ensuring that the Gitmo prisoners belong there and get treated humanely — three hots and a cot and no abuse — I couldn’t care less about their reading material. If they get Qu’rans, fine. If not, fine. If their Qu’rans get wet, kicked, dropped, laughed at, or ignored, let the military deal with the disciplinary issues, but it isn’t newsworthy. Why should we give a damn about it? What happened to our sense of priorities?

Amen and Amen. That’s the last I’m writing about it.

It’s all a co-ordinated attack on America by the Left and their Islamo-fascist allies. Think they aren’t allied? See the pre- and post 9/11 postings of mutual cooperation at their respective websites. Yes, I had a friend disrespect the Qu’ran with his blood-splatter when he was stabbed helping a wounded enemy soldier. So very bad! They hate you for existing! When are you going to wake up? Recognize the MSM for what it is–The Mainstream Socialist Media. Once you do, everything falls into place!

The soldier should have claimed to be a performance artist. After all a crucifix in a jar of urine is “art” you know. Elephant dung on a picture of the Madonna is also “art” and is defended by enlightened liberals.

Accidental spray is so much worse then say for example a suicide bomber in a Mosque containing Korans.

US News Media Defile Military on Koran Issue

A look at today’s page one stories on Koran abuse by three large US newspapers plus the AP headline offering clearly shows the anti-military bias of the MSM. After weeks of constant follow up trying to vindicate the discredited Newsweek story of a Kor…

Here’s my solution to the Koran problem: Take them all away, give them to some imam to handle as he pleases, and no more Korans in any US prison/camp. No Korans, no mishandling can occur. Let them study it from memory.

And we apologize when they apologize for harassing, arresting, torturing and killing Christians and for desecrating Bibles and blowing up churches and synagogues.

I’m starting to think that a good percentage of Muslims live in a parallel dimension where normal rules of logic and reason just don’t apply.
