Gitmo soldiers are Nazis?

H/T Varifrank.

Hugh Hewitt notes, meanwhile, that prominent Dems have no comment on any of this. Quite amazing.

“Several Democrats ducked the furor yesterday.
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, New York Democrat, declined to comment, saying she had not heard Mr. Durbin’s speech. When a reporter read the passage to her, she declined again.
The offices of Democratic Sens. John Kerry of Massachusetts and Joe Lieberman of Connecticut did not answer calls for comment.”

What’s John Corzine think of Durbin’s slander? Do the voters of New Jersey –Corzine is running for governor there right now– get to know if Corzine agrees with Durbin’s assessment or supports Durbin’s continuation as #2.

Every member of the military and their families and every voter who admires the military should be watching very closely as the Democratic Party and MSM say and do nothing about Dick Durbin’s smear. You can’t be a supporter of the military and allow the #2 Democrat in the Senate to put the Nazi/Stalin/Pol Pot brand on the troops, which is exactly what Durbin did.

Hillary first tried to duck it by saying she hadn’t heard the comments (well, she reads the NY Times, so she WOULDN’T know about it, would she?).

I remember when her husband was asked, the day after President Bush’s phenomenal speech to the Joint Houses, on September 21 - that memorable speech after 9/11 - what he had thought of it. Clinton said, “I didn’t watch it.”

Right. The biggest political junkie did not watch the speech his successor made which focused on the deadliest attacks ever made upon our nation.

Small people. Smallness. I’m sorry but it must be said: If Hillary Clinton does not have the moral compass to know that this is a time to break ranks with her party and come down on Durbin for his remarks, then no matter how much she purports to support the troops, she can never be their CIC. If her instincts, in this matter, are not fine-tuned enough to know what to say and how to say it, then how will she ever get a clue as to how to serve our nation or win a war on terrorism? If Hillary Clinton simply tries to duck and fade (with the assistance of the press) then there is simply no way she is demonstrating the leadership abilities necessary to govern a nation.

Disappointing to see that Joe Lieberman and Chuch Schumer had nothing to say about Durbin’s remarks, either.

Hubert Humphrey would NEVER have stood for Durbin’s remarks. Nor would either Jack or Bobby Kennedy. Or Scoop Jackson. They would have been the first to jump on him and demand his absolute retraction of those statements, and they would likely have told him to resign his leadership position while he was at it.

I mean, if you recall…Trent Lott resigned his leadership position for much, much less. He resigned because he’d been over-exuberant, spilling into offensiveness, when he wished a 100 year old man a Happy Birthday. And he resigned because his own party, the GOP was embarrassed, and had the sense to tell him to resign.

The Democrats can’t do it. And they are destroying themselves through their own hate and their own pride.

Sorry folks. Sorry, Dems. You have to address this. You have to either denounce it or be prepared to OWN it throughout your party. And if you want to be convincing…make him resign.

If you ever want to lead this country again, nothing less will do.

Btw - read all of what Hewitt has to say. It is an indictment of our mainstream press. And it is important to know.

It looks like they’re going to make themselves resign.

  2. Sigmund, Carl and Alfred Says:

I’m not surprised Hillary had nothing to say- she’s hoping it will all go away, like the Rose Law firm billing records (found in the trunk of an abandoned car), the FBI files found in Hillry’s office at the White House and the Tyson ‘Gee, I got lucky’ overnight chicken trade fortune.

You can run Hillary, but you can’t hide.

As for the rest of those who are avoiding comment on Durbin, well, those ‘no comments’ are going to make for interesting campaign commercials down the road.

You wanna play, you gotta pay.

  3. Bill Says:

She (HRC) has to first, take a poll to determine her position — just like Bubba.

  4. Francis W. Porretto Says:

But the Clintons are both entirely political animals. They permit themselves no moral constraints; such things would interfere with their relentless quests for 51% of the vote. Therefore it would be unreasonable to expect Hillary! [Rodham] [Clinton] to break ranks when her party, which she hopes will propel her into the Oval Office, is in such dire straits…admittedly due to the behavior of its spokesmen and highest-profile members, but all the same!

  5. cranky Says:

Regarding Hillary and Bill, in the 90s the word went out that any negative bumper stickers regarding the Clintons better be removed from cars driven by those of us in the military onto any military installation.

Yeah, we respected that administration. Check any photos of her with today’s troops — the troops flash distress signals.

If Senator Dick keeps this up, and he’ll be in the running to head the UN….

  8. Mr.Atos Says:

If Democrats have not said anything yet, then it is clear that they have nothing to say. Their moral confusion should be enlightening to them and cathartic to us. This is afterall what they have become. Don’t expect more from Hillary than what she has given to date, and don’t give her credit when her writers deliver her roadmap to absolution. The Left simply hates this administration more than they like their country. They’ll destroy both in order to divorce themselves from it… and all of us in the process.

  9. JH Says:

Hilary has no core beliefs. On the audio on Hannity, she argued she was there to talk about medical records and that this was important because it would save lives. She is right, electronic medical records will save lives, but she fails to be able to see priorities and this should worry anyone thinking about her for President.
Lets see, the number 2 Democrat in the Senate gives our enemy a huge boost to recruit nuts willing to kill themselves to kill our troops and civilians and she can’t see this is a bigger issue today than her bill for electronic medical records?? First of all, electronic medical records are happening in the free market because it saves money and provides better care. Her bill, like most government invasions into medicine, will only screw things up. However, even if it could help out on this issue, saving the lives of the troops today in time of war seems to have a higher priority.

What a Dick Durbin - Part Deux

A bonafide blogswarm is under way and there’s no better target than the Dick Durbin (D-Ill), one of the sorriest Senators ever to walk the halls of the U.S. Senate.

  12. Jami Says:

you know, i’m mildly disappointed with hillary for the opposite reason, for not defending durbin. it’s pretty horrible to watch you guys calling him a traitor instead of considering whether we should be the sort of country that leaves people who haven’t been to court lying in their own feces for 24 hours.

durbin didn’t generalize and say all our troops are brutes. nothing of the sort. that statement has come entirely from the right.

it was smart of hillary not to comment, without being sure of the full context of what he said. you can’t really trust republicans to tell you the truth these days. what with ed klein and all.

  13. TheAnchoress Says:

Hmmmm…Ed Klein wrote for Newsweek and the NY Times Magazine. Hardly a right winger or a conservative.

I know Hillary can do no wrong, to you, Jami, but she never takes a stand unless she knows its safe. And if she wants to show leadership, she should be out in front…if nothing else, demanding CLARITY, for those who are confused, I mean.

  14. Tony Miller Says:

John Kerry is no stranger to slandering the military. He must see a “brother in arms” in Durbin. Maybe Durbin can join his “band of brothers”.

  15. Monkeyboy Says:

    Jami;
He called the military guards at GTMO Nazis, the ones being bitten and spit at by prisoners, the ones who have to wear gloves so they don’t touch a prisoner’s Koran with filthy infidel fingers.

As for going to trial, they have been captured in a war zone, and do not fall under Geneva Convention rules by definition. They don’t get lawyers, you don’t treat them better than you would if they had followed the rules.
This is war, not a law enforcement issue.
