June 24, 2005Stories you might have missedThursday was such a busy day, what with the SCOTUS ruling that your house - not one of theirs, or any of those coastal mansions owned by the “power-to-the-people-but-not-on-our-property” elites - but your house and mine don’t really matter much in the grand scheme of things. And then the Democrats, forgetting about over two years of non-stop, divisive, accusatory, inflammatory and often bigoted rhetoric from their side, Show Same Ability to Self-Renew as Embryonic. Yes! It’s not really being “reported” (this is a pr piece) but still…it’s out there, and can be passed around! (Why do I feel like I am reporting underground news?) …”Scientists have typically believed that adult or post-natal stem cells grow old and die much sooner than embryonic stem cells, but this study demonstrates that is not the case,” said Dr. Huard, senior author of the study…. My belief is that this study should erase doubts scientists may have had about the potential effectiveness of post-natal stem cells.” There also may be important advantages to post-natal stem cells when it comes to autoimmunity, according to Dr. Huard…The use of embryonic stem cells could be complicated by issues of rejection, with the recipient’s immune system rejecting the foreign embryonic stem cells. With post-natal stem cells taken from the recipient and then reintroduced in an autologous manner, rejection would not be an issue. For more information on Dr. Huard’s research and Children’s, please visit the hospital’s Web site at http://www.chp.edu. Gary Bauer pointed out that the MSM boycotted the hospital bomber story. Despite the IDF’s distribution of a video of the Arab suicide bomber who intended to blow up a hospital, nearly all foreign news agencies chose to boycott the story almost totally. An outraged former undersecretary in the late US President Ronald Reagan’s administration, who was also a candidate to be the Republican Party’s presidential nominee, Gary Bauer, has written a scathing critique of the world media’s decision to avoid the story. Yes, you read that right…WORLD media avoided the story. The attitude seems to be, “who cares…it’s just JEWS, after all.” Has Dana Milbank been taken off the White House beat? Because he is much more amusing when he writes about Reps and Senators. This is almost surreal. In Iraq, the press is beginning to turn against the insurgents. This, I think, indicates a positive, rather than a negative trend, although, somehow, I don’ t believe the NY Times would agree. The militants are no longer referred to as the “resistance” but as gunmen or suicide bombers. Eyewitnesses are shown denouncing them as “terrorists” - condemnations that are echoed by a parade of Iraqi officials and religious authorities. One recent attack drew this comment from the al-Jazeera reporter: “Most of the time it’s civilians who pay the price for the violence that has cost thousands of their lives”. Al-Jazeera’s main rival, the Dubai-based al-Arabiya, has also shown little sympathy for the bombers - a recent report, instead, painted a favourable picture of British soldiers patrolling Basra. Now sit down, because this may shock you: The WMD are gone! Except…there weren’t any! Well…except for these over here and…well, heck, seems there are some, after all! The UN thinks Saddam spirited them away - probably during the months and months the Democrats, the UN and the worldwide Lefty Apparatus was demanding that George W. Bush go back ONE MORE TIME to get UN approval…and then ONE MORE TIME after that! Gateway Pundit forgives you if you missed the story, “since all of the MSM reporters were on “comparative gulag” assignment at Abu Ghraib…” Oh, and…Al Qaeda says there WAS a Saddam connection. Seems to me we oughta believe them. After all, the press is so quick to believe everything else they say. When they’re saying about our military, anyway. Oh, and who is funding the Iraqi insurgents? Well, US News and world report says it’s being funded by Eurolefties. That’s interesting. Linda Foley won an award for bitchiest non-apology of the year. Not really, but she should get a placque of something. She sort of apologizes for her “artless” remarks accusing US Military of targeting journalists, but if you read this thing…well…this is ONE UNHAPPY, DEFENSIVE and rather paranoid woman. (H/T http://www.instapundit.com”>Instapundit. Someone get the woman a margarita and a Pamprin. Social Security reform is gaining steam. Not Bush’s original plan. A Different GOP plan. Still waiting for the Democrat plan to reform SS. Oh, right, I forgot. There’s no problem there, anymore. Speaking of “ideas,” Charles Krauthammer says the Democrats are out of them. He quotes Daniel Patrick Moyinhan who said the GOP was becoming the party of ideas, and suggests that Pat would be stunned to see how reactionary and stagnant his party has become. In other news, the Democrats still think we’re in Vietnam, and they have solutions! Bigtime! Hugh Hewitt warns that Dick Durbins non-apology is setting up the Dems to display major rottenness toward our troops. That would be extraordinarily stupid on the part of the Democrats, considering the country feels very comfortable about both our troops and the detainment camp at Gitmo. William McClay writes an interesting and thoughtful piece, in Commentary, on Bush’s faith and how it drives the opposition to distraction. It really is a good and insightful piece. Donald Rumsfeld testified before the Senate yesterday. Kennedy asked him if he shouldn’t resign, Byrd demanded he “get off (your) high horse and stop sneering when you answer” and Joe Lieberman admitted to being worried about eroding public support for the war. Betsy Newmark notes that there was a fabulous answer given…that the LA Times chose to edit out…although they DID manage to get in Byrd’s remarks. Go read. But come back here, I have more stuff!!! Finally, that red-headed kid from American Idol who crooned the standards is playing at Feinstein’s in NY. Amid a sea of melismatic showoffs and crass belters, he stood out as an old-fashioned crooner in the thrall of a faraway vision. Still not fully emerged from his shell, this baby chick poked its head into the spotlight, oblivious to the smirks and raised eyebrows of the judges, to make a stand for a kinder, gentler pop of fluttery hearts and flowers and courtly gestures. At Feinstein’s at the Regency, where he is appearing with a small, well-rehearsed swing band, Mr. Stevens, whose first album (for Maverick Records) will be released next week, acquitted himself on Tuesday as a poised but diffident teenager whose musical personality is still mostly a blank slate. If his mild, creamy voice bears a distant resemblance to the young Sinatra, his choice of material suggests that the Sinatra records to have engaged him are of a later vintage. His favorite Sinatra recording, he declared, was an upbeat “My Blue Heaven,” which Sinatra recorded in the early 1960’s on the album “Sinatra’s Swingin’ Session.” I once read a very cruel review of Leann Rymes, in Newsday, wherein the writer’s biggest issue with the kid seemed to be that she was guilty of being 15 years old. I remember writing to the reviewer and asking him what HE was accomplishing when he was 15 years old. At least this NY Times reviewer is rather kind, and it seems young Mr. Stevens might actually have a future ahead of him. Good for the kid. He’s cute.
