Everything that came before Iraq War

World Trade Center 1993

Khobar Towers 1996

Nairobi 1998

East Timor 1999

USS COLE 2000

Gee whiz…looks to me like in the 1990’s we were seeing an attack almost every 18 months, or so! Then…

New York City 9/11/01

New York City 9/11/01

Washington, DC 9/11/01

Bali 2002

Let’s not forget the 1985 hijacking of the Achille Lauro, during which Abu Nidal murdered Leon Klinghoffer - before taking refuge in Iraq.

Let’s not forget the 1983 Bombing of American troops, in their barracks, in Beirut.

Let’s not forget the taking of American hostages, in 1979, held for 444 days.

Let’s not forget bin Laden’s own words in 2001 rallying against the West and trying to convince the world that our efforts in Afghanistan were unjust because, “there is no evidence of the involvement of the people of Afghanistan in what happened in America.” (H/T Glenn Reynolds) Rather like those insisting the same about Iraq, today.

Tell us some more how terrorists are only responding to regime change in Iraq, and how if only we would obey the “insurgents” there and leave Iraq, all of this would end. Tell us all about it with your tired, phoney, apologetics. Tell us how terror that has existed for decades is all the fault of George W. Bush and his poodles Tony Blair and John Howard.*

Thank God for these men, who understand that giving in to terrorism today will not make us safer tomorrow.

Trey Jackson has video of John Howard spelling it out as well.

UPDATE: Readers have sent in some compilations of dates and numbers starting from 1972, here.

Why Anchoress, you’ve barely scratched the surface.

American servicemen were killed in Germany, the Paris metro was bombed, marines blown up in Beirut on a peacekeeping mission, the ongoing terror inflicted on Israelis- of course, if you listed them all, you’d exceed your bandwith quota..

  2. TheAnchoress Says:

Yes, well…there is only so much bandwidth available to my budget. Someone just wrote and asked me if the 1995 OK City bombing shouldn’t fit between the WTC 1993 and Khobar 1996. I say…who the heck knows.

  3. reverse_vampyr Says:

Great post! Thanks for giving us a visual reminder of why we’re in this war. Unfortunately, the ones who need the reminder most are the ones completely blind to these events.

  4. SigmundCarlandAlfred Says:

Terror is terror- no matter where it originates. We executed McVeigh- and we need to apply the same standards to all terrorists.

Islamist “Sassiness” Actually Seems To Have Pre-Dated The Iraq War

For those who want to blame the the London bombings on Iraq, The Anchoress reminds of us previous “sass” by Islamofascist murder-cultists, back before Iraq was even a gleam in George Bush’s eye….

  10. RightPundit » Blog Archive » The Picture Rebuttal Says:

[...] For those who have trouble understanding words and need pictures, the Anchoress has an excellent, excellent photo essay proving beyond any reasonable doubt that the Islamofascist terrorist attacks against western civilization is NOT about the invasion of Iraq. Islamic Terrorism Isn’t About Iraq

  23. LostOkies » Terrorism and Iraq Says:

[...] For those who think that the invasion of Iraq is a cause of terrorism, you are right. Certainly Iraq has channeled and changed where terrorists chose their targets. 32. The Poor Man Cafe » Question Says:

[...] What I’ve learned about the war on terror so far is that it doesn’t particularly matter which exact brown people we are fighting or why we are fighting them, and it especially doesn’t matter how we fight them, if we are making any progress toward any goal, how many people on either side are killed and maimed in the process. Now, I admit that I don’t quite get why this is true, but I am lead to understand that the answer lies in with making photo montages of terrorist attacks and saying that everyone who isn’t nodding in agreement after seeing your carnage collage must be suffering from acute amnesia. I understand, however, that while the exact whys and whos and hows and wheres and RIPs of the GWOT are irrelevent, it is extremely important that no one be allowed to say anything which might imply that the GWOT is anything but the most noble, successful, and self-evidently justified undertaking in human history, because then the terrorists win. I don’t know what they win, but, whatever it is, they cannot be allowed to win it. [...]
