They had nail bombs? Lovely folks.

Nail Bombs.

“You see what is bulging on the sides of the bottle are nails. Many, many nails,” said Robert Ayers, a security expert who was shown the pictures by the American ABC News channel last night.

“And the nails are put there so that when the bomb goes off, the nails will tear tissue and kill people in the area. Bombs don’t kill by concussion. Small bombs, they kill by the blast effects of fragments of glass or metal, and this is designed to kill people.”

In case anyone was in doubt…yes…it’s designed to kill people. Not soldiers, not “warriors,” just people like you and me, going about their business, trying to do the best they can.

Michelle Malkin has more and you know she’ll be all over it. Meanwhile, Ed Morrissey is writing that Egypt, in the face of this week’s attack, is beginning to rethink its habit of excusing terrorism.

You know…after the 7/7 attack on London, I related that I felt that although the attack was a truly awful thing, I also felt like perhaps something - a complacency - had been jarred, that out of this tragic circumstance, we might finally see real change happen. It does seem that changes are coming, in Europe and now in the Middle East.

In the Gospel we read about the Angel and the healing waters at the pool of Bethsaida. The waters could bring healing…but only AFTER they had been stirred.

I don’t mean to say that I think the attacks are good things or necessary things. Only that sometimes good can come out of bad things.

Well, lets hope that we’ve been jarred (again and finally) out of the Dark Ages we’ve been in since the Battle of Vienna in 1683, when the West thought that it had finally vanquished, once and for all, the Muslim “extremists” who had been attacking Europe for 1,000 years. But I have to wonder how soon we’ll fall back. If only we had one-tenth the fortitude and strength of the Iragi people — can you imagine what it would be like if Western cities were targeted for death every single day, like in Iraq? The enlightened among us would have been singing the praises of the Prophet from day three or four, instead of absorbing the attacks and asking the killers, is that the best you’ve got. But these little misquito bite attacks do serve a helpful purpose in keeping us aware that WE ARE AT WAR, without inflicting too much damage that might diminish our will, thereby averting a much more serious and catastrophic attack that would come with complacency. Alas, I think that is probably inevitable as well. It may be only a matter of time before they smuggle a nuke into D.C., and then I will only be a fond memory to you all.

For years, I’ve been praying for the EU and other nations to wise up to the Muslim threat. It was disheartening to read about the dhimmi situation–how nations who should know better were pretty much giving free rein to the worst and most radical Muslim elements in their lands. I prayed that if God had to lift his hand of merciful protection and allow the real face of radical Islam to show itself in EU, then so be it.

Sometimes, people won’t see the truth unless it slaps them. Look at us. How many years were we attacked, bombed, our soldiers kinapped and killed, embassies targeted, before we realized, “Wow, they want to destroy us!”

We had to lose thousands in one day to understand.

Maybe the EU will understand with a much smaller death toll. I hope so.

A rainbow is but one aura of hope. When the reign (of terror) ceases and the waters of hatred receed, we should remember to look for the new aura… and steer the ark of Man to its rock.

As for any good that may come out of this, well, the North American Muslim authority (sorry, can’t remember what they call themselves) issued a fatwah that condemned the terrorists for targeting civilians, in language strong enough that I think it equates to the Catholic anathema. So, two things are likely to come of this: The terrorist organizations will lose adherents as people who believed they were doing Allah’s will wake up and realize that they were committing heinously sinful acts, and/or the hard-core leadership will say that the very authority that issued the fatwah is heretical or overly influenced by infidels and advise their followers not to heed their edict. Whatever happens in that regard, this will accelerate the rate at which the terrorists are destroying their own credibility. Whatever axe they may claim they have to grind, in the end, they’re nothing more than overgrown, overfinanced, and over-armed bullies, many of whom may well be doing it just for the sake of the feeling of power it gives them, and hiding behind the mantle of Islam…a mantle their own religious authority has just removed.
