Texas Help ‘Em! (UPDATED)

I’m not abandoning the Katrina Aid Weekend (still going strong, and if you haven’t had a chance to contribute yet, please do, and then log it!)

But I wanted to just do a sort of “round up” thread that I will continue to update as I glean stuff off the blogs and news:

Texas: Michelle Malkin has extensive links and coverage of how big-hearted Texas is helping out. It’s really very impressive. Just below it she has a less heartening, but we’ve gotta look at it series of links on the strains of anarchy still pulsing through affected areas.

Junkyard Dog has more on those unused buses. I cannot get the image out of my mind.

Ed Morrissey has more on the recent renovations on the failed levee.

More than blogger posts, what I’m really liking are emails bloggers are putting up from readers who are out in the world seeing and doing like this email to Instapundit, regarding powerline workers:

Anyway, I wanted to ask you if you would send out a thank you from Mississippi to all the out-of-state power company workers who have been working around the clock in 90+ heat to help us get power back up. Our own folks have been magnificent as well, but I just wanted to let the out-of-staters know that their kindness and generosity will not be forgotten. They literally poured into the state to pitch in, before the storm was even over. Most of us can’t even offer them a glass of iced tea, but they have been on the front line in helping us begin to get back to normal.

:-) I love Americans.

In the midst of all of this, Able Danger story is alive and kicking. AJ Strata and Tom McQuire are - like Ed Morrissey - staying on top of things and still keeping track. I admit the thing has become so complicated, I get lost in it.

Meanwhile, this Southern Boy says that the Elites don’t understand the South. He’d know better than I. H/T Maureen, who also reports that according to NOAA, Hurricane Katrina was caused by…a hurricane!

Neo-neocon is thoughtful about everything we are seeing, and she has some good links.

I haven’t had a chance to read this profile of Rumsfeld, but Betsy says it’s good, so I don’t hesitate to recommend it to you. Betsy also links to an EU Rota piece that will raise the eyebrows and seriously displease the folks currently constructing the “Bush’s flood-control policy is to blame” meme. One to save and haul out when needed.

Charles Krauthammer finds himself rather liking the Iraqi constitution.

Amy Welborn has Katrina Assistance with a Catholic bent.

Cathy Seipp has an education piece you don’t want to miss reading.

Don Singleton says New Orleans should rebuild elsewhere If they do, how much do you want to bet someone will take what’s left of Bourbon Street and the French Quarter and relocate it to Las Vegas for a theme hotel?

Corpus Christi - south of where I live in TX - is receiving up to 3,000 evacuees from New Orleans. Del Mar College and Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi is also accepting college students from the disaster area at a low tuition rate and financial aid, and I’m sure local churches are also banding together to help those affected.
