September 5, 2005$841,645 and climbing…UPDATE: As my cousin in Surrey would say, “I am gobsmacked!” But in a good way! Katrina Relief Effort has broken the One Million Mark in reported donations - $1,065,101 at this hour, to be exact! And all youse guys! We’re at $17,810! Gobsmacked! All due to you folks - and here’s a few more folks to thank: Michele B. Susan, Katie D, Eileen & Michael, Monica, Donalee, Carol Stephanie, Anne, Gregorio, Jeff, Eileen % Larry, Mary & Jim, Gregg and several more anonymous people - you know who you are! God does, too! Blogging was light today for many reasons - mostly to do with family - but I’ll try to get back to work, now! The Katrina Relief Effort being undertaken by bloggers and their readers is approaching $900,000.00. Actually, when one adds in the current reported total from dropcash, who have gathered $157,585.00, the bloggers have raised very nearly one million dollars. But we can do more! If you have not yet made a contribution to Katrina Relief - if you keep saying, “yes, I mean to do that,” but you still haven’t gotten around to it - take a few seconds now to scrawl out a check or use a credit card to donate online. If you don’t know where to donate to - here is a list. After you’ve done so, don’t forget to log it in so we can watch the tally move up! I am in bewildered and grateful awe to see that the readers of this blog have contributed over $13,125.00 to this effort…do I dare actually be greedy and set a goal? Can we reach $15,000? That would be phenomenal, considering what a little blog we are! With this update, I add to the roster of folks to thank for their contributions (and if you have contributed and I have missed naming you on one of these updates, please accept my apologies and send me an email advising me!) Thanks to RB, miguel, Martha L, James D, jmejr, CTP, Sadie the Cat and Amos the Cat, dan, peggie and peggy! DON’T FORGET! ALL proceeds realized through Amazon sales via The Anchoress Bookshelf in the month of September will be donated to the Salvation Army for Katrina relief. If you are looking for textbooks, a trashy paperback, a DVD, a CD, etc, please consider scrolling down my sidebar and ordering thru The Bookshelf - it’s a painless way to contribute to Katrina’s victims. A few links: Michelle Malkin notes and I can’t help but notice it too, that the MSM media seems to be purposely ignoring the fact that over 250 busses were not used to evacuate citizens of New Orleans, even though their emergency plans called for their use. The press doesn’t want to know. “Lalala,” they say, hands over ears, “we can’t hear you!” It’s despicable. The incomparable Bill Whittle has a tremendous essay up, expounding on how who we are and what we are taught affect how we respond to emergencies and difficulties. It’s a keeper. Julie at Happy Catholic has some interesting Katrina-related links. Rather busy today but I’m collecting links for a round-up later this afternoon, so check back. http://theanchoressonline.com/2005/09/05/841645-and-climbing/trackback/ 4 Responses to “$841,645 and climbing…” |

Thanks for the recommendation to read the Whittle article. I looked at it, decided I didn’t have time to read it, started to read it and then read it twice.

The press doesn’t want to report a lot of things- not the least of which is that whatever monies were or were not spent on levees has nothing whatsover to do with NO and LA disater plan.

I haven’t read a Bill Whittle essay yet which wasn’t a keeper. Thanks for the link, Anchoress!
