NOLA Deaths greatly exaggerated

Lots of stories concerning Hurricane Katrina and its chaos and aftermath are turning out to be wild exaggerations or outright lies.

The NO Times-Picayune admits it.

Michelle Malkin has quite a lot on the subject (no surprise, there), including the thoughts of the Powerline guys who have some questions for the press about accountability. Good questions, too. I think they should be asked, since - as Drudge highlighted this morning - Hillary Clinton thinks there should be “gatekeepers” who can get stories right. More on that - lots more - in another post, tonight.

Confederate Yankee notes this other lie, here

Laura Lee suggests the press was playing a screwed up game of telephone and wonders without much optimisim if the press will apologize to the president. Yeah, that’s gonna happen.

We’re always hearing that self-examination is good for the soul. Oprah says it. Katie Couric says it. The press en masse say that W should “examine” his policies and his actions and admit when he has made a mistake. They SAY it. They don’t do it themselves, but they SAY it.

Everything and everyone ever involved with levees, New Orleans or Katrina - including the media - needs looking at.

Yes, I am still grumpy.

Lorie at Polipundit has has more - and lots of links.

I for one would enjoy seeing the media’s freepass revoked in the form of recending the shield of confidentiality they use in regards to ‘un-named sources’…they have abused it. They so often fling oppinion to the wall instead of stating facts. They are the self-appointed, and have none to answer to, but continually say they ’speak for us’…but who could possibly be the gate keeper, except ourselves…tune-out and turn them off…or why not hold a anti-MSM protest on Rockefeller plaza during the taping of thier morning show, ‘you don’t speak for me Katie!’signs shown through thier precious fishbowl…

The MSM will investigate themselves. And find nothing–oh, maybe a gentle reminder to get a few confirmations and do a better job in the future. After all, they investigated themselves on allegations of bias many times–any never found any substantiation. Maybe CBS will hire an “independent counsel” just like they did for the Rathergate scandal–one they have under retainer(with an existing fiduciary realtionship to protect their client-CBS). Voters, afterall found nothing wrong with Hillary representing the US in Federal Resolution Trust Corporation versus Madison S&L, even though the McDougals were friends and clients of hers through the Rose Law Firm.

Oh, by the way, Madison Guaranty’s failure cost taxpayers $65 million…
