September 28, 2005Chuck and Tom - only Tom matters (WAY Updated)Ed Morrissey has a good piece up at the Standard, examining Chuck Schumer’s reluctance to take to the microphones to discuss the dirty tricks perpetrated upon Republicans, by his staff. Expect nothing to come of it. Now THIS indictment of Tom Delay you’ll hear a lot about. Endlessly, and very likely the reportage will be rather half-assed, as Jason explains in a good post. This seems to be a habitual game played by this fellow Earle, and each time he comes up a smeller, but we’ll have to watch this one play out, as well. I’m quite sure the press, who can’t find interest in Chuck Schumer, will give you all the reading material they believe you need to see on this one. At first glance, the indictment seems to be pretty flimsy, but that won’t stop all the noise that is about to start. I’m coming to believe that the indictment doesn’t have to be real - that it doesn’t really matter what the indictment SAYS…just as long as an indictment is BROUGHT, so that the spinning and the noise may (as it did with Katrina) deeply imbed the desired impression. The new tactic seems to be: nothing actually has to be TRUE, as long as the illusion may be brought and sustained. Am I sounding bitter? I’m getting there. I’m disgusted. I have no strong feelings about Tom DeLay one way or another - if he’s guilty he should pay, if not, well, he’s about to be destroyed - that’s how it goes, these days, right? I’m just getting fed up with the overt and daily disparities between how things are reported. I’m freaking weary of it. I wasn’t weary a week ago, but I am, now. Michelle has more on Chuckaquiddick and on how the press is ignoring that story while feeding in a predictable frenzy on this one. California Conservative has more, with lots of links. Lorie Byrd is in excellent form. Michelle Malkin has running updates. Ace has comments both pithy and sly. Ed Morrissey is calling Earle Howard Dean’s personal prosecutor. Has a point, since Earle had to convene 6 grand juries before he could come up with what looks to be a very weak indictment. From Powerline: (Michelle Malkin) Someone asks about the vagueness of the DeLay indictment. Q: What role did DeLay actually play? Earle has no concrete answer. Q: What is the proof DeLay conspired? Again, no concrete answer. The Democratic Party is committed to the view that there is no such thing as going too far. To date, they’ve done reasonably well with that approach. But they may be pushing their luck this time; God help them if the press ever stops covering for them. The Dems needn’t worry. The press is fully in their pockets at this point, and I do believe that what we are witnessing, this week - in several ways - is the very discreet beginning of a press-assisted, long-ranged…coup. I’ll write about it down the road…when I feel like it. But you heard it here first. Note - the Delay story broke as I was posting this, hence the header change. http://theanchoressonline.com/2005/09/28/camera-is-over-here-chuck/trackback/ 6 Responses to “Chuck and Tom - only Tom matters (WAY Updated)” |

Bender, you are right on..
.
Also, it appears to have come true. The Hammer and his lawyers appear to be putting the full court press on the, well, press.
.
Someone ought to put together a list of House Leaders who have been run out due to scandal (whether proved true or false.) It’s got to be a big list..

Democrats Demonizing DeLay
Just in time for Halloween.
When the news broke this afternoon about Tom DeLay’s indictment, we made a prediction — or, better said, a statement of the obvious: the MSM would waste no time to cover this story in a feeding frenzy unlike we…

One also wonders: why now? Why time this to pick up where post-hurricane Bush-bashing left off? DeLay on Hannity and Colmes this evening was not lying down as lawyers typically advise their clients to do in such situations: accusing Earle of coordinating with national Democratic operatives and of extortion. Fightin’ words, those. I’m thinking this one could actually backfire. Call me an idealist.
