October 31, 2005Over the top left fringe needs parentingI know, I know, the extreme left participates in the primaries and the extreme left donates all the money, but really, some grown up in the Democrat party needs to tell these adolescents acting out that their intellectual dishonesty and over-the-top carrying on is not going to get them the White House. Michelle Malkin lists some of the ways these folks are going to “mourn” Bush’s re-election on November 2 (Grow up!), and she describes some of the Halloween antics for tonight: Prisoners wearing pink triangles - some could have bloodied stones attached to their heads (signs on them could read, “Jailed/Executed For Being Gay”) Women in white shrouds with large/visible/bloody hangers and blood stains People dressed as doctors with nooses around their necks (or a large bullet wound) and black hoods over their heads, with a sign that says, “Executed For Providing Abortions” There are banners, too: “2008 is Too Late! Real Horrors Are Already Here!” “It Doesn’t Have to Be This Way: Nov 2: NO SCHOOL. NO WORK. UNION SQUARE. NOON” Two Days Til The Beginning of the End of the Bush Regime! Michelle has more. These perpetual adolescents in perpetual hysterics really need to be tamped down, I think, if the Democrats really want to be considered a serious party, again. Which, I hope they do. We need TWO serious parties in this country. Not one serious party (albeit with spineless legislators) and one party that is two parts Romper Room and one part Group Therapy. BTW, in case you’re wondering, these are not the First Children I wrote about here. These are just the useful idiots who will, eventually, be American Kapos. Meanwhile, Gateway Pundit reminds us there are dead people voting. Cathy Seipp - Profile in CourageI had no idea she has Lung Cancer. She writes brave and eloquent, and even a little snarky, here. A must read. Makes me feel bad for pissing and moaning about my troubles. The Blogger call and the Dem talking pointsI didn’t participate in the RNC Blogger Conference (I feel The Anchoress should be dissuaded from doing both live radio and these conference calls, as nervousness lends her to respectful snark, which the RNC doesn’t need right now) but many others did, and they are writing about it. Mark at Decision ‘08 always has a good breakdown of these chats Ankle Biting Pundits has the biggest commentary on it. Right Wing News also has it. Blogs for Bush relate that Mehlman warned of partisan attacks on Alito. Ya think? Scroll down here, and you will also see the Confirm Alito Coalition and they link toSloppy Seconds Syndicate. John Roberts will have to deal with some good-natured ribbing for a time, I think. Don Surber, who also participated in the call has some nice quotes from Democrats praising Alito back in 1990, when they were still allowed to praise the nominees of a Republican president. Verrrry interesting. Also very interesting is Chris Matthews over at The Political Teen who called the quickly disseminated Democrat National Committee Talking Points, “a pretty disgusting document.” He went ahead and disseminated, them, btw…just called them disgusting. No, I’m just kidding. He was appalled by the “amazingly bad politics” of it. When Matthews actually criticizes his party, that’s an interesting day. But then again…he sounds miffed at the “stupidity” of the move, and how it will hurt the Dems. (Btw, Ian at Political Teen just ended his bandwidth drive, but you can still donate to his site, if you missed it). Red State has the Word Document if you want to download it. According to the commentors there is evidence that the Dems had this piece of paper waiting from week day O’ Connor resigned. Four months. If you don’t want to download it, you can read it here. The Amazing Michelle has more. The World Without America and JewsI touched on this story over the weekend but some new posts around the blog are more than worth reading. Neo-neocon talks about the rather sophisticated marketing of this campaign, toward the left. Gates of Vienna takes a very sobering look at the lay of the land. This is very unsettling, sobering stuff. To read it and then click to a new page…well, I know it’s what we DO in this age…but attention must be paid to this heel-clicking movement. We cannot simply shrug it off. And while we’re wondering what to do about all of it, take a look at what happens to an 8 year old boy caught stealing bread in Iran, if you can stand to look. Someone just emailed me that both the president and I are evil. Perhaps. I’ve been called worse things. But I have to assume that if I am evil, than the person who called me that would find this act pretty heinous. Then again, maybe not. Maybe he would say I’m disrespecting another’s culture. Disrespecting a culture? I just wish I could bring this 8 year old into my house and teach him not to steal in a more loving and constructive way. We evil folks, we can’t stand seeing stuff like this and keep thinking maybe the folks trapped in those worlds demand a chance to walk in the sun. Evil. Roberts apologizes once moreAnd this time, I do think that Sr. Alice Ann must be smiling in Nun Heaven. After reading some of the posted comments in response to my apology, I remain deeply troubled and wanted to take a moment to try to clear this situation up. I can assure you that in no way did I intend to use the phrase ’sloppy seconds’ in either a sexual connotation or a perjorative way. Rather, I was thinking ’second choice’ - or ’second best’. If Harriet Miers was the “best person for the job” - then - where did that leave Alito? It was a poor choice of words, for which I am deeply sorry. Many posters seem to think that it is indicative of an ‘agenda’ or ‘reveals my true thinking’ about the White House. That is simply not the case. I goofed. And I freely admit it. The words had barely escaped my lips when I cringed and thought ‘oops - that was a stupid thing to say’. Again, the forum was informal and is never broadcast, so I my linguistic guard was down. I uttered a phrase that is used colloquially these days to describe a number of situations. At no time did the sexual connotation ever enter my mind, but I agree, it has no place at the White House. I have offered my apologies to Scott McClellan, and he has graciously accepted. Scott and I have a good working relationship and he is confident that I meant nothing untoward. And I offer a humble apology to anyone who took offense upon reading the text of my question. Journalists must be held to high standards, and in this case, I fell short. You can be confident that it will not happen again. With highest regards, John Roberts Says something about the man that he would work to clarify things. Again, good for him. Some might declare that “sloppy seconds” could never mean “second choice” except in a very derogatory way, but I’ve always figured you have to take folks at their word. Alito causes gnashing of teeth UPDATEDor something… BareKnuckled Politics says they are going to keep a running roundup (meaning it will be updated all day - I just coined that phrase, btw) on how the leftist sites are discussing SCOTUS nominee Sam Alito. They’re saying some ugly things, so far, calling him a “moral degenerate” who will strip search little girls, “sloppy seconds,” (yes, I know, he apologized…but it’s out there, now…), a draft dodger, and “another motherf***** for America.” You know…the usual. All Bushian nominees are monsters or deviates or both. Yawn. Meanwhile, Benedictblog considers the top ten ramifications of having a Catholic majority on the Supreme Court. I particularly like #5. UPDATE: On a completely sane note, Victoria has a very long, well-researched look at Alito’s background. It’s a keeper! CBS’ Roberts apologizes……for this. “At the morning White House gaggle, I used an unfortunate choice of words in a question to Scott McClellan. Please be assured that there was no perjorative intent to my question. I was merely attempting to reconcile past statements about Harriet Miers with the President’s new nominee for the Supreme Court. The early morning White House gaggle is an informal, free-wheeling and often irreverent forum, which is not broadcast and generally not publicly available. Obviously, my tone this morning was a little too casual. As we all experience from time to time, it was one of those ‘oops’ moments which we wish we could rewind and re-record. I apologize to anyone who took offense to my poor choice of words. I can assure you I meant none.” CBS’s Public Eye has it. I grant you, it’s not the sort of apology Sr. Mary Alice Ann would have deemed appropriate; it does not name anyone in particular to whom it might be directed, and it qualifies the apology with a vague “to anyone who took offense…” which assumes that many would not, but these days, folks aren’t as fastidious as the old nuns, so…it’ll have to do. UPDATE II: Roberts also apologized personally to McClellen this afternoon: “Scott, on the subject of rude, my apologies for my unfortunate choice of words this morning to you.” Okay. Well done. Comportment, ladies and gents, comportment! McClellen should have let Roberts have itScott McClellen is a milquetoast. If John Roberts had dared to ask me, as he did McClellen, whether Judge Alito represented “sloppy seconds,” I would have narrowed my eyes and, after a beat, suggested very quietly to Roberts that his question was unworthy a White House reporter, and that it said nothing at all about Alito or the president, but it spoke VOLUMES about Roberts, himself. McClellen just did the “not at all,” crap. He should have said what I wrote above, and then simply said, “this conference is over - I will meet with you ladies and gentlemen again when you can comport yourselves appropriately,” and walked out. Or maybe just walked out without saying anything else. It would have demonstrated to the press that there are BOUNDARIES. And it would have made the press, perhaps take a look at themselves. Would they report it? How could they slam McClellen if they did? Their own member behaved like a boorish clod. Seriously, McClellen blew that. A perfect opportunity for a quiet, under-reacted smackdown. Roberts is disgraceful. I’m sure he has no capacity for shame or embarrassment, but he should be both ashamed and embarrassed, and frankly any journalist with any class should be mortified by his question, as well. But the press is in such a habit of disrespect and fuming hate toward this president, that perhaps they see nothing wrong in Roberts’ remarks today. He’s a pig. And, he’s from CBS. Not that that really matters - all of the news services are disrespectful…but CBS does seem to be leading the pack. If you call this number, btw, you can probably ask to be directed to viewer services, or whatever it’s called: 212-975-4321. Roberts should be made to apologize both to McClellen and to the White House. Otherwise he does not deserve to be in that prime job. Btw - my opinion of Alito: Great. Good show. The Democrats are gonna go crazy and perhaps finally push themselves over the edge toward which they have been inexorably hurling themselves for 5 years. But I will go to my grave convinced that there was a reason, or a stategery, if you like, behind the Miers nomination - one that perhaps did not get to be played because of the reaction of the right. Her nomination made no sense, otherwise. Maxed Out Mama has more including excerpts from DU which suggest they are - eek - agreeing with me, that Miers was a head fake. UPDATE: See Roberts’ apologies here. October 30, 2005Sometimes a thing is just wrongAnd if you haven’t the moral courage to SAY it is wrong, if you are so indoctrinated into relativism that you cannot see the wrongness of it, then you’re in bad shape. Your humanity is lacking something.
What is that saying…”this time is out of joint…” Better yet… The Second Coming Surely some revelation is at hand; |
