The Blogger call and the Dem talking points

I didn’t participate in the RNC Blogger Conference (I feel The Anchoress should be dissuaded from doing both live radio and these conference calls, as nervousness lends her to respectful snark, which the RNC doesn’t need right now) but many others did, and they are writing about it.

Mark at Decision ‘08 always has a good breakdown of these chats

Ankle Biting Pundits has the biggest commentary on it. Right Wing News also has it. Blogs for Bush relate that Mehlman warned of partisan attacks on Alito. Ya think? Scroll down here, and you will also see the Confirm Alito Coalition and they link toSloppy Seconds Syndicate. John Roberts will have to deal with some good-natured ribbing for a time, I think.

Don Surber, who also participated in the call has some nice quotes from Democrats praising Alito back in 1990, when they were still allowed to praise the nominees of a Republican president. Verrrry interesting.

Also very interesting is Chris Matthews over at The Political Teen who called the quickly disseminated Democrat National Committee Talking Points, “a pretty disgusting document.” He went ahead and disseminated, them, btw…just called them disgusting. No, I’m just kidding. He was appalled by the “amazingly bad politics” of it. When Matthews actually criticizes his party, that’s an interesting day. But then again…he sounds miffed at the “stupidity” of the move, and how it will hurt the Dems. (Btw, Ian at Political Teen just ended his bandwidth drive, but you can still donate to his site, if you missed it).

Red State has the Word Document if you want to download it. According to the commentors there is evidence that the Dems had this piece of paper waiting from week day O’ Connor resigned. Four months. If you don’t want to download it, you can read it here.

The Amazing Michelle has more.

Anchoress, if I may, here are my own talking points about the Alito nomination (it includes the now famous Princeton Yearbook quote about “warming the Supreme Court bench”, with pic):

    Take that, it’s Alito!

I note the reaction from NPR (muted), and though I mentioned Hannity & Colmes in passing, as well as Paula Zahn, I was surprised at the mostly positive reaction from these sources (save Hannity, obviously).

Although a lot of famous news analyst personalities were on holiday today (Diane Rehm on NPR, Bill O’Reilly on the Factor, etc.), only a few members of MSM came out very negatively against Alito.

    Wise tactics. He’s solid.

    Cheers,
    Victoria

  2. Bender B. Rodriguez Says:

He voted in favor of partial birth abortion as a fundamental right.
    .
He voted in favor of partial birth abortion as a fundamental right.
    .
It doesn’t matter why or how. The plain simple fact is that he voted in favor of partial birth abortion as a fundamental right. We don’t need to go any further than that. There can be and is no good excuse or reason for doing so. Ever. And there is no explaining it away.
    .
Now, you all can say that he was compelled to do it. In the face of all logic and simple human decency, and despite the fact that the oath he swore was to uphold the Constitution, which is more than Supreme Court precedent and which does not say that murder is a right, you will say that he was forced to stand on the side of the butchers because the Supreme Court made him do it. Just like the judges in antebellum America were forced to return fugitive slaves, just like judges in 1930s Germany were forced to sterilize Jews and send them to concentration camps, because a bunch of judges above them (who think themselves to be “the law,”) said so, notwithstanding the fact that all human decency cries out against it.
    .
But the fact is that it is quite apparent that he didn’t even try to distinguish the N.J. case from Stenberg. He made no attempt to find a way to uphold the N.J. partial birth abortion law. He even rejected a request that the N.J. state courts be allowed to interpret the N.J. law before he struck it down. He made no analysis of the issue at all — he simply summarily, casually, and coldly upheld partial birth abortion as a fundamental right.
    .
And we are supposed to turn a blind eye to this??? We are supposed to simply trust those intellectual superiors at NRO? Anyone who can ever vote in favor of partial birth abortion — for any reason whatsoever — anyone who can allow himself to be personally involved in abortion, who can cooperate with and participate in such evil, as he did, is not qualified to sit on the Supreme Court or to sit on any court anywhere, even if he does have a fancy degree from an Ivy League school — and especially if he calls himself a Catholic.
