Quell the riots…or fine the Capitalists?

What a dilemma! While France deals with behavior up with which Mayor Rudy Giuliani would never have put, and declares that laws dealing with lawless rioters must “must be applied in a spirit of dialogue and respect,” (because THAT is certainly what soothes an angry mob!) Brussels watches from the sidelines and then makes a notation in their, “Big Book of Important New Thoughts.” The notation:

“Christ should not be capitalized. Nor should Jew.” Capitalizations could result in fines.

At the European Union, the name of the humble carpenter from Nazareth may be diminished by lower-case spelling, but Javier Solana, The Great will continue to have his name spelled in capital letters.

It is unclear whether they believe “Mohammed” or “Islam” should be capitalized, but we await their announcement on that issue any time. As Betsy Newmark writes:

And Jews here might be interested in this rule.

According to the Kath.net agency, the new spelling legislation will also stipulate that the Dutch word for “jews” (joden) be spelled with a capital “J” when referring to nationality and with a lower-case “j” when referring to the religion. The changes will be mandatory in August of 2006.

I’m sorry, being Jewish is not a nationality. My nationality is American. My religion is Judaism. Do Europeans still regard Jews as having a different nationality? They truly are seeking a way to antagonize as many people as possible.

Indeed. But…as we see, nightly, they’re being very, very careful not to piss off the Muslim youth. Rod Dreher reports that French news reports, reluctant to identify the rioters as Islamists has a phrase:

“I just watched a three-minute report on CNN about the Paris riots that never once mentioned the words ‘Islam’ or ‘Muslims.’ It referred to the rioters merely as “ethnic immigrants.” You cannot tell me this isn’t on purpose.”

Hmmm…what was it Hermione said in one of the Harry Potter books, when Ron kept shuddering whenever Harry referred to Voldemort by name…something like, “fear of naming a thing gives it power over you…” or something like that.

Betsy also points out that the big problem here is France being unable to sort out whether all of this is a crime problem or a social problem. Ah, the ditherings of the rationalists. Again, they need a Rudy Giuliani to get in there and say, “get these punks in jail, get order restored, then you can play Dr. Tea and Sympathy!”

Well…but at least no one is capitalizing the name of Christ! Why do I get the impression that the EU folks will soon be finding this request utterly reasonable? And I wonder if French TV has a problem with cartoons encouraging suicide bombers.

Let me get this straight: I can be fined if I capitalize ‘Jew,’ I can get an art grant if I depict Jesus covered in feces, and frenzied, wild rioters in Europe are addressed with attention paid to their self esteem as a priority.

I may be passing myself off as three dead shrinks, but I’m the picture of mental health.

That’s “Fear of a name only increases fear of the thing itself.” I think that sums up PC-speak nicely.

And to think none of this would have happened if we had just elected John Kerry last year! Or for that matter if Bush hadn’t stolen the election in 2000! This is all Bush’s fault!

I noticed the Brits were always using the lower case for “catholic church” and others for quite a while now. Many of those same people add “PBUH” (Peace Be Upon Him) after each “Mohammed” usage. The Europeans will do well under their new masters.

I’ve noticed more and more the tendency to write God with the lower case, even when the writer is referring to God. This bothers me.

“We also hold that parents have no due process or privacy right to override the determinations of public schools as to the information to which their children will be exposed while enrolled as students. ” That’s new, and certainly seems to be an overreach. Though according to strict constructionists of the constitution, there is no “right to privacy”. It’s the reason many believe Roe should be overturned, and at least this would be consistant with that.

Darn it, wrong post! My apologies :-)

As will the Dhimmicrats, I suspect. We should load up all the cruise ships and send ‘em over to Western Europe, where they will be well supervised by their masters.
