It’s my favorite online publication and articles like this one from Theodore Dalrymple which looks at the prophetic nature and linguistic brilliance of the novel A Clockwork Orange, are why.
UPDATE: Link corrected to Dalrymple’s piece.
PPK Blog (Priest, Prophet, King) tracked back with Deus Caritas Est
My favorite part: . 35. This proper way of serving others also leads to humility. The one who serves does not consider himself superior to the one served, however miserable his situation at the moment may be. Christ took the lowest place in the world
Dalrymple makes an intersting, if rather subtle, point.
As he notes, as long as there is an institution, be it government or an insurance company that are willing to pay for the damages of immoral behavior, we are content to deny what is an inevitable confrontation.
Of course, those who would do such damage will not stop escalalting the terror (that is after al, what ot really is), if it’s effects are not realy felt by the victims.
Paying off terrorists or the victims of terror, in the hope that a) the terror will go away and b) that a society can avoid confronting those who would hurt that society, is an fools game.
I said it at the time and I’ll say it again. The Paris riots were a precursor to a ‘Eurofadah.’
