Sharon Stone says “in America, we erase women after 40″
She’s made that statement after having enough cosmetic work done as to be unrecognisable.
Women in America are not “erased” without their own acquiesence to it. Women who run for botox at the first wrinkle or who get their faces pulled so tight they can’t close their eyes, or who constantly have themselves “primed” invalidate themselves. They signal to the world that the world’s obsession with youthful beauty is, in fact, a correct and legitimate obsession. They disown themselves and all the gifts and wisdom that come with age by obliterating any evidence of it.
I’m not an Annette Benning fan. I once heard her make the very shallow and thoughtless remark that virginity “is unimportant,” which tells me she’s never really thought about it. But she is a lady who has made a point of looking her age. And I can respect that. I think she looks great.

March Hare has some thoughts for Sharon.

Ms Stone also made the insighful and profound remark that she would ‘kiss anyone for peace.’
Still no takers.
By the way, never mind Annette Benning.
Check out Isabella Rosselini.

Whenever people say “In America, we do X”, I always wonder whether they have investigated the prevalence or non-prevalence of X in places other than America.

While ‘In America we erase women after forty’ may not be true, I think it is fairly true to say ‘In Hollywood we erase women after forty.’
.
For Sharon Stone, Hollywood and America are probably synonymous.

And here’s my comment:

.
The short version: I’m over-40 (Okay, I’m over-50!) and proud of it! And I certainly don’t feel “erased.”
