Yo, WaPo! Consider Ed Morrissey!!

I didn’t pay much attention when the Washington Post brought Ben Domanech into their paper as a columnist from the right. I thought it was good of the WaPo to make the gesture, but I wondered why they had chose him, especially, when the rightwing blogosphere is so chock full of writers who seemed quick with an interesting topic or pithy turn of phrase.

Turns out, I was right to be only “whelmed” by Domanech’s pearls - they look now, to have been recycled.

Domanech has resigned his position and the WaPo, to its credit, says it will continue to seek a conservative blogger voice to fill the spot.

My suggestion: Ed Morrissey of Captains Quarters Blog. He’s a tireless researcher, a dandy writer, an honest gentleman who is not afraid to reconsider a notion or admit a mistake. He’s quick to give credit to others and - most importantly - he can think a matter through reasonably, without giving in to emotion, and consider aspects of any given subject which might elude the rest of us.

There’s not a hint of his being ethically challenged, either. He will never become an embarrassement for us on the right. He is a gentleman in an age where gentlemen are rare and valuable. He knows how to be civil even when those corresponding with him, or writing about him, are disinclined to civility.

Not that the WaPo will listen to me any more than Les Moonves will, but they should consider this, because my suggestion is a really good one. Ed Morrissey and the WaPo, could be the start of a beeeyootiful friendship.

Who knows, it could even be the start of a season of civility.

It would be a nice thing to happen - for Ed, as well as all of us - but I can’t see it. The WaPo is not really looking for the ‘voice’ of the Right.

Come on, if WaPo had really been interested in hiring some of the amazing new talent on the right side of the blogosphere, they would be well aware that Morrisey, Hinderocker (sp.?), Malkin or Your Esteemed Self would have been the obvious first picks. Frankly, I’m a bit suspicious that this was a delicious setup: they already had the goods on Domenech and his plagiarism before they gave him the gig…what better way to try to discredit the powerful new force that they hate and fear?

I second the motion (not that the WaPo will listen to me, either). Cap’n Ed did a masterful and heroic job on the political scandal in Canada when the Canadian Government threatened to shut down bloggers that covered it or even linked to Ed’s site.

While I have to agree with convert’s logic, I second, third or whatever your suggestion that WaPo find the guts to offer the position to Captain Ed. He is outstanding, among an impressive cast of right of center bloggers. Prominently including yourself, of course.
