“Citizen Journalists” cover immigration

Two weeks I wrote about citizen journalism and wondered whether it would become a necessary feature of information distribution thanks to a press intent on believing it is still doing the job. While the press is more intent on disinformation, these days, the guys at Powerline called for normal, average citizens to gather news and images at yesterday’s immigration rallies. The results are interesting, and provocative. You can watch a tape, here.

Note that neither the NY Times or any other paper, in their gushing reports, mentions that these rallies seem to be entirely the work of the socialist group, A.N.S.W.E.R. - a fact difficult not to note if you’re watching the paper’s own tapes. Writes Powerline:

Yet the organization’s role was not acknowledged by the Times, or, to my knowledge, by any other newspaper. Why? The Times’ reporters were obviously aware of A.N.S.W.E.R.’s prominent involvement, and thirty seconds’ worth of research would have disclosed the fact that the group is an unabashedly Communist organization. It wouldn’t have taken much more than that to learn that A.N.S.W.E.R.’s National Coordinator has said that illegal immigration can be the “catalyst for a broader class struggle, even possibly a revolutionary struggle.”

Now, I’m not suggesting that most of those who carried A.N.S.W.E.R.’s signs in yesterday’s demonstrations sympathize with, or are even aware of, that group’s extremist agenda. But isn’t A.N.S.W.E.R.’s role newsworthy? Isn’t it something that newspaper readers need to be aware of, to get a balanced picture of the demonstrations?

The Times doesn’t think so. The Times made the editorial judgment that you’re better off not knowing who was responsible for that sea of yellow and black signs so clearly depicted in their own video. Because, when mainstream media organizations start referring to “mischievous toddlers,” it’s not hard to figure out whose side you’re supposed to be on.

Which illustrates pretty well, I think, why we need citizen journalism. They may be correct.

Michelle Malkin has more, more, more, including links explaining just who some of those “speakers” were…plus tons of links with photos.

Thank you, pols from both parties, for doing nothing on this issue for some 30 years. Now it’s all come home to roost, and you still have no ideas, do you?

Also, slightly o/t, but don’t miss this piece by Michelle on Santa Cruz students chasing off mil recruiters. Unreal. Their right to be obnoxious was won and protected with the blood of past servicemen and women. Like the little fascists they don’t realize they are, all these students want to do is shut down anyone who dares think differently than they. These same “enlightened” folks would be begging for their protection if Iran was aiming at them. Disgusting. And the Democrats will do whatever it takes to win their votes.

And Neo-Neocon is not thinking that Iran will blink.

    the socialist group, A.N.S.W.E.R.

“Socialist” would be a gross understatement. There are some good faith socialists, misguided thought they may be. On the other hand, ANSWER is a combination of Leninist-communists, dedicated to nothing more than violent revolution, and anarchists, who likewise merely want to violently destroy the existing society for the sole purpose of destroying it. In other words, a bunch of punks who think it cool to burn and pillage.
