Lieberman loses?

Ah, well, this is not a bad thing, really.

The far left is going to be emboldened, beside itself and insufferable. More, insufferable, I mean. And they’ll overplay their percieved hands like mad (as they usually do).

The right will mobilize.

If Lieberman goes Independent, he’ll possibly siphon off votes from both sides. That should be interesting…will be he the Perot of Connecticut?

The most interesting part of this whole story is what it says about the magic dust of the Clintons. Her tepid support was still support, and Bill campaigned for him with his big PT Barnum grin. For several elections, everyone Clinton has campaigned for has lost. That fact cannot be lost on them, can it?

Perhaps it is - they breathe pretty rarified air - but those two have always kept close eyes on their popularity because it directly affects their influence and power, and this is yet another “black eye” for them. As Betsy writes here, the Clinton team cannot be too happy about the messages they’re getting.

I do think, in the end, sensible people will be appalled to see Lieberman - the “conscience of the senate,” and a man who dares to stick to a principle - so treated. This could backfire bigtime on the left…if the Dems have enough sane folk left to react to this.

As to some of the reactions from the left I’ve read today…much of it sounds unhinged and a bit ummm…totalitarian. Apparently it’s not enough to defeat Lieberman, he must now be made an “unperson…” You vill be loyal to das pahrteh or ve vill destrhoy you.” Good message! Keep that up, please.

Blue Crab Boulevard notes that the first scalp collected by Kos is a Democrat’s.

John Stephenson notes the margin was closer than expected. Okay. But a loss is a loss. Wizbang has coverage and Pajamas Media is all over it. Gateway Pundit has the next goals from the ratskeller.

Lorie Byrd at Wizbang has the best round-up ABP has good analysis.

Reliapundit says Lieberman lost because he’s Jewish.

Lamont will be roundly defeated in the general election.

The citizens of Connecticut will not flush Lieberman away. He is repected by everyone in his state- everyone- save the bigots.

They have had their say-and the citizens of Connecticut will not allow them to go further.

The Lamonters wil become the equivalent of the Arab lamentors, as they realize that mainstream dems and republicans will recognize them for what they have done- sold their souls for a moment bliss, and nothing more.

Thet lamentors will have hated themselves into oblivion.

I wonder what effect “August 22″ will have on the election…

Let’s pray that is so. However, the wisdom in 1992 was that Clinton’s election was not such a bad thing because people would see how awful the Dems would be. Actually, Clinton’s election was near catastrophic. The problem is that it emboldened and gave new life to a party that was nearly dead, such that they actually would believe that they were a majority party.

This too will embolden the loony left for a long time. And there is no guarantee that the right will always win. Good does not always defeat evil — not in the real world. This will also embolden the jihadists.

As for the Clinton psyche — they have never really cared about true popularity. Their main concern is power — the acquisition and use and maintenance of power. If they can get power with a majority, fine. But if they can get it without a majority of the electorate, they will take that too. Bill never, ever, ever got a majority of the vote. But that never stopped them from claiming that 90 percent of the country supported them.
