September 5, 2006The Launch of the CBS CouricShe has a very good writer - at the bloghelm, anyway - it seems. We’ll be swapping stories, sharing opinions, asking questions and generally just taking stock. In the little village that is CBS News, you might consider “Couric & Co” the coffee house on the corner, where something is always brewing. That’s a great line. As I wrote a few weeks ago I am hopeful but not optimistic: What I am getting is that the CBS Evening News is going to commit to even more aggressively “instructing” us rather than simply giving information, that while Couric is busy providing the “perspective and context” she says we’re demanding, it will be very easy to provide it with a bias. (”Why, this crap in N. Korea is happening because of [oh, let’s just say] Bush’s multi-lateralism which we’ve been begging him to try elsewhere, but we like BI-lateralism in N. Korea, because that’s what Clinton used, and even though it didn’t work, we like the Clintonian template, in all things.) While she’s busy providing “context and perspective” is she going to review just what a resounding failure the Clinton/Albright policy toward N. Korea was? I highly doubt it, and that’s a damn shame - because frankly THAT would provide some much needed context and clarity. [...] The press is supposed to “comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable,” well, let’s see if Couric is capable of “afflicting” a Kerry, Clinton or Kennedy. That would be stunning. It would be…miraculous. What hath Les Moonves and the Viacom folks wrought? My Auntie Lilly used to say, “well, we’ll see…and then we’ll know!” Also writing: Musing Minds. Katie Couric broadcast will never see the light of day in this household. However, she will have good ratings because people want celebrity news and many do want to be told what to think.

because I have nothing better to do with my time I put together a warning system for Katie’s broadcast.
I just don’t see how things are going to get better at CBS just because they have Katie reading the news script.

I rather go to that coffee house instead. There, people on the Left wear their Che shirts openly.
