A round-up: Pope, Dopes and general prattle

Pajamas Media has a rip-roaring round-up of Benedict stuff, so I’ll round up on other issues as well. I’ll let you decide what is about dopes and what is general prattle…

Photos of context-challenged Islamists…and an answering cartoon.

Speaking of Cartoons….

Gerald links to a cartoon on Al Jazeerah, by people who have had their issues with cartoons in the past. Funny how the cartoon shows JPII as a Man of Peace. I mean, it’s nice to see them portray John Paul the Great in such a manner…he certainly was a man of peace…but how does that square with these terror tunnels in Rome which were found while JPII lived. Why would they want to cause trouble where JPII lived?

Al Qaeda says the pope and the west are dooooomed! DOOOOOOOOOMED!. They want him to make “more” of an apology, as in “take back all your words and bend for our sword.” Neither will happen.

Rev. Donald Sensing writes:
Muslims bomb, burn, shoot and threaten for being called “violent”. H/T Blue Crab Boulevard.

The Pope Must Die. (I am so tempted to say, “you first…” but that wouldn’t really be nice, would it?)

Militants vow war. “Militants,” note…the media has a new euphemism.

Shrinkwrapped looks at Benedict and Bush and wonders why Islamists don’t understand or respond to invitations. A very interesting read.

The Pope’s Challenge

Let the Pope Preach.

Why the Pope was Right

Blue Crab Boulevard looks at the world’s increasing inability to discriminate between serious and silly matters and finds some culprits, especially in the press.

Brutally Honest writes on Christian Pacifism

Siggy is looking at the clash of behaviors and that’s something I think we’ll be reading about more and more. Basically Siggy says the Muslims have painted themselves into a corner.

Gateway Pundit reports that the Aussies are cracking down on Imams.

Confederate Yankee
is noting the differences

Sam Harris, liberal extraordinaire, writes Liberals have their heads in the sand. This story, about American leftists getting together with Ahmadinejad in NY, makes me think he is right. Mike Wallace liked Ahmadinejad, too. Thought he was groovy.

“Do you have Jewish blood?” Yes, a reporter actually asked that of Sen. George Allen. Un-be-lievable. H/T Beth.

Normally when I link to Dick Meyer at CBS’ Public Eye, I try to comment on his piece, but I’ve had no time, recently. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go over and read his latest. In fact, you should! You Should!. He’s thinking about the upcoming elections.

Ed Morrissey is feeling all mushy and sentimental today. But he’s not too wet to catch the press falling back on anecdotes about the “terrible economy” when they don’t like the data that says otherwise.

Dean Bartnett takes strong exception to this statement: “whenever there’s a lot of killing, atheists are never behind it.” Aussiegirl has news on graves giving up their incriminating secrets about the Soviets. You won’t see much coverage on this, I’m sure.

The fixation on boobies continues unabated and poor Ann Althouse and Dr. Helen have been bearing the brunto of this brouhaha, but now Classical Values has jumped into the fray.

Put this one in the “Who woulda thunk it?” Pile: The Producer of the Path to 9/11 says the press didn’t really paint him fairly. I mean…what did he expect, really?

Speaking of the press, Patterico discovers yet another alarming trend.

Dr. Sanity has the Carnival of the Insanities up and this is a particularly juicy week.

DJ Drummond looks at the top “issues” and where both parties stand on them.

I’m not much for following polls, but Alexander McClure points out that President Bush’s postives are higher than his negs for the first time in almost a year. Read the comments, they’re pretty interesting, too.

Tigerhawk has news on Canadian casualties in Afghanistan, which don’t get much press. Meanwhile, Sister Toljah tells ya about good news in Iraq, which is also not getting much press. Of course.

Gates of Vienna gives us a helpful history lesson on Asia Minor. Neo-neocon gives us a different sort of history lesson.

Apparently George Bush is to blame for Ecoli bacteria. I’m still waiting for someone on the left to blame him for the pope’s speech…oops, speak of the devil…

Speaking of Bush, Dr. Sanity notes that the assassination movie won an award, which is not at all surprising, and neither is the mental condition of Hollywood, which she analyses.

The Radio Equalizer has an interview w/ Dr. Laura remember her? You won’t if you look at the picture - she’s airbrushed into unrecognisability!

Major Pain does not see the futility of talking to Code Pink, which says a great deal about his personal character, which is admirable.

Finally, I raved about Jim Geraghty’s excellent new book, Voting to Kill
here. Now you can listen to the podcast as Glenn and Helen interview him, here. Quite enjoyable!

    Dr. Laura Schlesinger’s blog interview

Does anyone remember Dr. Laura Schlesinger, the controversial radio host? Well, you can read a two-part interview with her at The Radio Equalizer, here and here, that’s recommended for reading.

Alqueda wants to kill the Pope.

The latest burning of the Pope in effigy - in Basra by the local Al Queda folks. Head of Al Queda in Iraq said he was looking forward slitting Pope and Christians throats and taking their money as booty. Outside

    The Pope and Islam

…This sort of stuff is so out of hand, so over the top, so excessive and so antithetical to western liberal thought I simply cannot find words to describe it…

I think Jonah Goldberg hit the nail on the head–this is less about Islamic fury (which is probably not that widespread) as it is about making the west squirm and writhe. Europeans and the American left just want to be loved (first it was the Jews screwing things up, now its the Pope) and the worse thing you can do is challenge them on that. Some of the Radical Islamists even said the Jews and Pope are working together on this one!

That is why Oriana liked PB16 so much–he gets that a huge problem we are facing is the self loathing of the west (and so does Hitch).

    Pope Benedict and Islam

Isn’t it amazing? The way mobs across Dar al Islam seem to hang on the Pope’s every word, even scrutinizing obscure addresses that get zero press in nominally Christian countries, unless Dar al Islam expresses its displeasure and the Western…
