October 2, 2006Anchoress hits two million visitsSometime while I was occupied with Buster’s knee, my two millionth visitor peeked in. A good time to thank you all for your patient readership. I appreciate it every time you click in! And in honor of my two millionth hit, let me link to two stories of Democrat double-think that just blow my mind. Ace writes: Democratic Strategeist Bob Beckel: Fact That Mark Foley Was Gay Should Have “Raised Questions” About More Innocuous Emails…Likens Gay Man Around Boys To Notorious Bank Robber Willie Sutton Hanging Around Banks On Hannity & Colmes two minutes ago. Hm. How quickly they change their tacks. Now the reality is that I would tend to be suspicious of any gay man interested in being “friends” with a sixteen year old boy. (Or, for that matter, any straight man interested in being “friends” with a sixteen year old girl.) But it seems to me the Democratic Party stands as a whole for the proposition we must have no suspicions about gay men who want to hang out with boys in the woods. [emphasis mine - admin] That would be about the Boy Scouts, remember? Remember, was it the 2000 convention when some Scouts processed with the flag to open the Dem Convetion and they were boo’d and conventioneers held up signs saying, “we support GAY boy scouts…” Yeah, that was back in the day when my kids were called haters and homophobes for being scouts. Now, of course, it is politically expedient to cast suspicion and doubt upon a gay man communicating with a 16 year old boy, and the Dems love what is politically expedient. Which causes even this center-left journalist to call them a party without principles. Don’t get me wrong. Foley is a creep and good riddance, and I wish he’d take Denny Hastert with him…but my, there’s a Dem player throwing gay men under the bus in order to make political points. Well, why not? They know they can count on the gay vote…no risk there, right? Gagdad Bob writes about homophobes on the left. Second piece - and it’s about both Dem Doubletalk AND Dem Duplicity - comes from Ed Morrissey, who writes first about the most dishonest campaign ad he has ever seen (guess who is running it?) and also links to this piece about Dem operative Katie Barge, who was involved in stealing Maryland Lt. Governor Michael Steele’s confidential credit report last year. She paid no real price for it and is happily, gainfully employed this year by Media Matters. http://theanchoressonline.com/2006/10/02/anchoress-hits-two-million-visits/trackback/ 17 Responses to “Anchoress hits two million visits” |

Happy 3rd blogiversary to the ST blog
Today marks my 3rd anniversary in the political blogosphere - the first year and a half or so started out as a bit of a bumpy ride, but it’s smoothed out a lot in the last year and a half.
Here’s the post I wrote on my 2nd blogiversary, w…

Let’s not forget Barney Frank, scion of the Dems. I seem to recall a tiny male prostitution scandal involving his office some time back. Perhaps some blow-back toward the Dems would be a good thing.

I believe one reason Hastert et al left Mark Foley alone is they feared being labled “HOMOPHOBES”.
This is not surprising, because Log Cabin Republicans are an important swing vote.

Allow me to add that my reference to Barney Frank in any way implies condoning Foley. To be perfectly honest, I am pretty well sickened by the whole thing. The broader point will be missed by the Dems and the press. They loved gong after the Boy Scouts on the one hand and then nailing the Church on the other… all the while playing to the issues from both sides. They can’t have it both ways. I highly recommend two articles from the WSJ:
1)By Brendan Miniter
http://www.opinionjournal.com/columnists/bminiter/?id=110009031
This one deals with the Republican inability to police themselves.
2)On the Editorial pagehttp://www.opinionjournal.com/editorial/?id=110009033
This one addresses the double-standard upon which the Dems could very well get hung on.
I think there is a broader morality play being acted out here but my personal thoughts are not quite PC on the matter and I will leave it at that.

[...] The Anchoress also sees political motivation at work, and notes how the Democrats can turn-on-a-dime to take advantage of a situation — Principles, we don’t need no stinkin’ principles? It’s election season! Now, of course, it is politically expedient to cast suspicion and doubt upon a gay man communicating with a 16 year old boy, and the Dems love what is politically expedient. Which causes even this center-left journalist to call them a party without principles. [...]

Congratulations to the mighty Anchoress…
I do notice a difference in the Republicans and Democrats in regard to the ugly behavior of Mr. Foley.
Republicans do have a recent track record of the past 15 years of kicking out the bad, when they find a problem.
Democrats seem to protect, promote, reward the condemnable.
But, in regards to elections, and this NOV., this is beyond one person, and the imperfections of Majority Leadership.
This is about the Defense of Our Country…
The Democrats are for abandoning the Iraqi People, killing the Patriot ACT, closing Gitmo, terrorist rights, etc…
Hopefully, the Conservative base, sees past the failures of the few, and look beyond for our Nation.

Don’t forget the Democrat Studds who had an affair with a male page and then went on to win reelection.
I think the whole thing is nasty, but watching the Democrats get all self righteous is just nauseating.

When you fear speaking the truth because you will be labeled, then you have allowed a minority to censor your speech. This is not simply another consequence of the Left’s adherence to the idiocy of Political Correctness, but also of the Right’s acquiesence to it. Surrender to the screaming mob and you give up the power to speak freely.
Think Hastert, et al, have figured that out?

I don’t know Bob Beckel from Adam. However, if I had received a complaint about a “sick, sick, sick” e-mail sent by an older person to a member of the appropriate sex (same sex if gay, opposite if straight, either if bi), it would raise questions for me, and lead me to do exactly what any person responsible for caring for others should do: make sure that everyone who could have been a victim knows that it is perfectly safe to come forward about any issue regarding improper sexual contact.
That Foley was gay is completely irrelevant. That he was gay and acting a bit too friendly towards young men is relelvant.
If he was on the level, and socially inept, and acted too friendly towards a young man, he’d say nothing happened, it was just him being friendly. If he was a predator, he’d say nothing happened, it was just him being friendly.
Since his answer will be the same, innocent or guilty, you have to make sure that if there are any legitimate complaints about *anyone* (not Foley in particular), that they can brought to the light in perfect safety.
Had they done this, they would have known that pages were talking about him for years; then they could have nipped this in the bud.
The one thing that I despise about this situation is how many people have spoken as if they had no choice, because they couldn’t jump on Foley with both feet without evidence. No one cares that they didn’t come down hard on Foley without evidence. Folks are upset that they didn’t make absolutely sure that nothing else was going on. Folks are upset that
1) they didn’t look out to make sure all of the current pages were protected, and knew it was safe to report on a big-shot Representative if that Representative was causing them problems, and
2) didn’t talk to former pages, to ask if they had anything they’d like to talk about - there had been some complaints by other pages of unwelcome sexual attention, please let us know if anything like that happened to you.
Had Hastert done that, if he’d protected the young people in the page program, he’d have been doing his job. He didn’t, and his failure to do so might well have caused other people to be harmed.
