October 13, 2006The Harry Reid story not sexy enough?AJ Strata is doing big time investigative work on the Harry Reid story, and Ed Morrissey is asking good questions about Harry Reid’s land deals and troubling forgetfulness when it comes to income reportage, and such. I had a question of my own and asked someone who actually makes a living as a journalist the same questions Hugh Hewitt is asking today: why it was that the Reid story was getting so little attention from the MSM. “Not sexy enough. The Foley (R - Creep) story had sex. That’s better tv.” Hmmm…I couldn’t help remembering that Dan Rather didn’t want to report on the “salacious” Gary Condit (D -Chilling Creep) story, even though that had sex in it. And it was Newsweek, wasn’t it, (and I think, Rather, again) who did not want to report on the Lewinsky/Clinton (D- Big Creep) story. And I am perfectly sure that if the Reid (D - Shyster and Senate Minority Leader) story was actually about someone named…oh, I don’t know, let’s just throw a name out there, Rudy Giuliani (R - Trouble in 2008) the story would be alllllll over the news, and reporters would be beside themselves, excitedly checking public records which are currently so unsexy. And my pal would probably say, under such a circumstance, “well, that’s different, Rudy is America’s Mayor, so that makes the story interesting and sexy.” My pal is a good guy and he’s not much of a partisan-type. I think he’d really believe what he was telling me. And maybe it would even be true, so let’s throw out another name. How about if the Harry Reid (D- Phoney) story was about, ummmmm….Bill Frist (R - Snoresville), the second most boring Republican after George Pataki (R - RigorMortis)…do you think the press would then be reporting on the details of his land deals and wondering if his son was sitting on zoning boards while Frist was making his deals? DingDingDING! We have a winner, let the sharkfeeding begin. Honestly. Let’s be truthful, here. If Sandy Berger (D - PaperSox) worked for anyone with an R after his name, and destroyed documents spirited out of the National Archives via his pants…do you really think the press would have immediately yawned and put that story to bed? There are many good people working in the mainstream media. But let’s not kid ourselves that we have a free and unencumbered press in this country. The press is not free and they are very encumbered…and they have sadly caged themselves by choice. http://theanchoressonline.com/2006/10/13/the-harry-reid-story-not-sexy-enough/trackback/ 17 Responses to “The Harry Reid story not sexy enough?” |

My Daughter and son-in-law live near vegas. My son-in law is a lawyer there. this is very close to the line of legality and is getting major coverage there from some of the news outlets. lets just say that Harry Reid is not very popular there now and sinking fast. will he recover in time to be elected in a few years? it is anybodys guess but right now NO WAY!

First, just as an aside I love the premise and design/layout of your blog.
To the point, thank you for dealing with the hypocricy (sp) of the MSM as regards their “blindness” toward democrat’s sins.
The frustration due to the one-sided treatment of the news was a primary factor leading to my venting through my poor little blog.
Bottom line: Well done, very well done indeed.

[…] The Anchoress’ latest must read posts are The Harry Reid Story Not Sexy Enough?, Looking Back At Some Lessons By JP II (we share an unspoken competition about who of us is a bigger JP II admirer. Anchoress takes the lead because she is Catholic. On the other hand, she has to admire JP II. We are real fans by choice) and Crucifixion! Isn’t Just For Saviors Anymore! There is a reason The Anchoress does not have to impersonate three heavily accented dead psychiatrists to read her blog. […]

Gary Condit was a Republican.

#6, Lynne, sorry but Condit was a Democrat, as you can see here. The reason you may not know it was because every story about him did not start, “Democrat Gary Condit,” as it would have started “Republican Gary Condit,” had he been one. The big joke, in fact, was how the media tried to mention his party affiliation as LITTLE as possible. Condit was considered a “conservative Democrat.” But he was a Dem.

I’m Alex Trebek - and we’re pleased to welcome ex-Presidents Carter, George H. W. Bush, and Clinton to Jeopardy: ex-President’s Edition!

The scam was they the MSM almost always used the term “Conservative Gary Condit.” BTW, Condit had less than a 30% conservative voting record according to both conservative and left-wing groups. Bod Dole had around a 60% liberal rating according to those same groups. Recall you never saw the words “Liberal Bob Dole”…
Now let’s see what the MSM does with the Studds obit…

Anchoress: Again, we are on the same page. I wrote this piece, which notes the same issue (but in this case, the context is with the most recent Rose Garden Press conference). As always, you make awesome points with style.

[…] The Anchoress notes that Harry Reid isn’t getting the same kind of attention that Mark Foley got, and concludes that for some reason, in the eyes of the mainstream media, not every political scandal is equally worthy of attention. Honestly. Let’s be truthful, here. The issue is not with which side of the aisle this guy happens to sit on. It rests instead entirely within the expectations of American voters. We as a country have become so entirely disillusioned with our legislatures that it’s _expected_ that Senators are going to be doing sleazy things to put money in their own pockets and power in their own chair.
-
Between the perpetual redistricting of voting districts, payoffs and gifts from lobbyists, capitalizing on who-knows-who scenarios at the public’s expense, America just doesn’t even give a damn anymore. If there’s anything you can get Joe Average on the street to agree upon, it’s that corporations don’t pay their taxes, and Senators are corrupt. Plain and simple, nobody who’s not “into” politics gives a damn about the story. There’s a variety of reasons for this apathy, but I think most of the general citizenry has either a very unclear conception of or general apathy towards the actual relevance of laws that they could never break themselves.
-
And that last part is why the Mark Foley scandal was so pressworthy in the eyes of the mainstream media — child abuse is something anybody can relate to. It’s something where Joe Water Cooler can go, “that could have been some random dude sending obscene emails to underage interns, but it was a goddamn SENATOR.” It’s really much more visceral than rich people breaking laws that only rich people can break.

Transparent Lying
Yet the MSM really think they’re fooling people with this nonsense. Is there a brain damaging chemical in their water coolers?
