Great Pumpkins, Bad Art and More

Great Pumpkins: Some of the most creative and smile-inducing Halloween Pumpkins I have ever seen - thanks to Julie at Happy Catholic. Also, a post from last year on whether Halloween is “satanic” or not, which I’m posting because I’m already getting those emails again. You know the ones.

Kim at Musing Minds has turned her puppy into a martini. The thing coming out of the olive is a toothpick. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Bad Art: The Evangelical Outpost’s Joe Carter has a very interesting analysis of the dubious current and rather good earlier artwork of Thomas Kincade. It’s quite an enjoyable read, and the artwork comparisons are enlightening. Pun intended.

Speaking of bad art…The Dixie Chicks were never my cuppa. They are now chattering on about being silenced. Funny how that happens, isn’t it? Tim Robbins got to write and perform in a play about how he was being silenced by the “chill wind” of the Bushies, and now the Chicks are chattering all over the place. That’s some funny sort of silencing.

What is not funny is that apparently they were on Oprah yesterday talking about their silencing. I know this because the very lovely and personable tech who did my CAT scan today asked me what I thought about “the Dixie Chicks being silenced by the Bush government. I saw it on Oprah.” When I asked her how the Chicks could be blacklisted and silenced when they were doing talk shows, touring a show and ummm…being featured in a movie. Her response: “Gee, I hadn’t thought of it that way…”

The Cult of Oprah - from the UK. Lorie Byrd review’s yesterday’s Oprahcast w/ Bill O’Reilly and commends Winfrey for being balanced.

Blue Crab Boulevard has a Chicks antidote. Oh, and ummm…cancel that “silencing” part. Seems that was just a publicity stunt? Oh, well…the meme is out there, now!

Uh-oh, if our European betters can’t manage it, how can we? Figures reveal Europe falling far short of climate targets. Better get Gore on that!

Mary Katharine Ham and video blogging: perfect together.

Ed Morrissey eloquently deplores the state of modern political campaigning. So do I. After this tawdry, hysterical, distortive, manipulative and intellectually dishonest, emotionally dishonest, hypocritical election season is done, I will understand why good people who sincerely want to help create good things for our nation will be discouraged from ever entering the political game. Meaning we’ll be stuck - forever - with one grasping mediocrity after another. Gawd help us.

This Republican is voting Democrat, just as soon as they answer this one question.

The ACLU has dropped its challenge to the Patriot Act

Lorie Byrd suggests that Nancy Pelosi put down the drapery swatches and back away slowly.

Meanwhile Rich Lowry compares and contrasts the MSM’s adjectives and adverbs on the possibility of Pelosi’s (Gawd help us) ascent to the words they used for Gingrich.

Neo-Neocon has the next installment in her series about The Facade of French Justice and it is an engaging and troubling read.

John McCain still maintains: NoKo is Clinton’s fault.

The Doctor is In: The writing is excellent.

CUANAS boils down some Islamofascist rhetoric for those who don’t quite get it: Women Are Meat, Being Raped Is Adultery Oh, And By The Way, Kill All Gay People

Two daily must-reads for between now and the election and for however long it takes to know who won what, after: Jim Geraghty and Stephen Spruiell.

If you missed it, I clarified my remarks on Rush down below.

LaShawn Barber is Godblogging at the GodBlogCon.

IMHO: The White House Press Corp lost its collective mind the day the damn daily briefings were put on camera.

A new blog that you’ll want to give a look-see to, Smart and Final Isis, written by a woman with something to say about Islam, and it’s not what you’re used to. Michael Totten has already found her. But it’s about more than Muslims

    Evangelical Aesthetics

From bad to worse. (Tailwag: Anchoress.) Actually, I don’t hate Thomas Kinkade’s art. I don’t feel superior to people who have his paintings–or more likely, a lithograph of one of his paintings retouched with a few brushstrokes from a faceless…

[...] Both the Anchoress and Captain Ed are wringing their hands over the nastiness of the elections. Fine. Wet your pants and moan about it after we’ve won, but shut up until after the elections so we can win. I’m sorry these people have bought into this PC crap, but I’m really sick of them sabotaging us just so they can feel good about not offending anybody. [...]

    The Dixie Chicks Archipelago

You probably haven’t heard, but the Dixie Chicks have a new movie out. For the most part, word of the movie has been suppressed, but a few key details have managed to leak out…

The worst negative campaign commercial yet

It’s really getting sleazy out there. I turned on the TV last night to watch a little football and had to suffer through another series of negative campaign ads. One stuck out as the most negative ad I’ve seen yet…
