November 1, 2006Kerry “Officially” Apologizes - UPDATED:::SCROLL DOWN FOR UPDATE::: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted to wrongly imply anything negative about those in uniform, and I personally apologize to any service member, family member, or American who was offended. It is clear the Republican Party would rather talk about anything but their failed security policy. I don’t want my verbal slip to be a diversion from the real issues. I will continue to fight for a change of course to provide real security for our country, and a winning strategy for our troops. It’s still not right. An apology is: I said this. I never meant it the way I said it. It hurt you, and I am sorry. UPDATE: Hugh Hewitt is asking troops if this apology is sufficient. First response doesn’t seem to be positive. Jim Geraghty writes:Buddy, I know what you want me to believe you meant. Unfortunately, what I believe you meant is not that. I believe that what you said is what you really think, but you don’t want people to know that. Ah, well…that’s what happens when you spend the first 24 hours of a kerfluffle trying to figure out what the punchline really was and fannying about like a pirate-wannabee. “I apologize to no one, arrrrrghghgh!” Jules Crittenden is calling Kerry Massachusett’s Botched Joke: There’s something else. A number of the people I know who voluntarily went to Iraq are in fact stuck there, even though they are back here. Reporters as well as soldiers. I exchanged emails with one last week, a highly educated enlisted man, an Auburn University graduate who enlisted after Sept. 11, back home a year now. He can’t stop thinking about Ramadi. It’s hard, he said. He felt like he was doing something good there. Something that mattered. You don’t leave a place like that behind, a place where your friends died, a place where you expected to die. You carry it with you. I guess I don’t particularly appreciate someone trying for cheap political yuks off that. Java Zen points out that I’m sorry you were too stupid to interpret me as I meant to be interpreted, even though I made a balls of it is not really the best way to go for a mea culpa. Hugh Hewitt wonders if the papers will run this photo tomorrow. They should. These clever troops deserve it. Hugh writes: But really, will the dead tree media refuse to run a picture that not only had a major impact but that people would gladly buy a newspaper to have in print? Don’t hold your breath.
Michael Ledeen says Kerry’s been saying this sort of stuff for 30 years and this is not over. Michelle Malkin has the roundup of reactions, and what she misses James Taranto covers. Read it all. Particularly the bits about how -once again - the press is working hard to rescue John Kerry from himself. http://theanchoressonline.com/2006/11/01/kerry-officially-apologizes/trackback/ 10 Responses to “Kerry “Officially” Apologizes - UPDATED” |

It seems as if he is blaming Republicans for his stupity, and not really himself.

“Qualifying” is what the modern Liberal does. And he must, you see, because so many of us are simply too simple to understand what the modern Liberal is saying.
Thankfully the modern Liberal can help us, and will, if we just stop listening to the evil, nasty Republicans - they’re Nazis, you know - and let them narbor in a new Era of Niceness.
Amazing how well the stupid GWBush can be understood, eh?

I’ve listened to video of Kerry making the “stuck in Iraq” joke. Maybe I’m dumber than dirt, but I just don’t hear any reference to George Bush. Once again, it’s masterful deceptive spin for the Dems to outsource their cruelty and arrogance on to those evil Republicans.
It’s true that in the Kerry Vietnam Era, boys were drafted and served only because they could not wrangle a college deferment. Some of ‘em were so mentally challenged they couldn’t perform a simple “left face”. In the USMC, we called them the “10 Percent” Todays’ military is different. These guys are real pros, and smart. A few bad apples….surely….but that is normal society.
I’m so glad I didn’t have a John Kerry as my superior officer….I’d probably still be in a brig somewhere.

“Welcome to American politics, 2006 edition: The president is a joke and the Democrats can’t even tell it right.”

This was commented as a favourite sum up of this whole ~misinterpretation~. It should make the rounds!!
^
What i want to know is how a man can speak so clearly and then blame the outcome of poor taste on ~misinterpretation of his words that wrongly implied anything negetive about our troops~.

Duh- i think the dude needs a refresher course on the weight of words.

“I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted”
This is an insult to the audience.
What Kerry said was in plain English. There is nothing to “interpret”.
