I’m a 25 and other links

That would be a “25″ on this test to gauge one’s political posture. A “25″ puts me in Bush 41 land, although I take issue with a few of the questions for which I thought the answers too broad. I was conflicted, for example in having to choose between Ronald Reagan and FDR as “best president.” See what your score is.

Looking around the web, both Betsy Newmark and Ace of Spades are thinking that -gasp- all the election year rhetoric of the Democrats and their minions in the press was all, in fact, expeditious nonsense that they didn’t really mean! I’m shocked, shocked. I need to lie down.

Actions speak louder than words. The Dem words are not matching up to their deeds. That didn’t take long.

The White Horse of Uffington has nothing to do with Huffpo, and it’s also very interesting. But I am redundant.

From the “Maybe they’re all just one guy” Department: Well, we’ve found Jamil Hussein, but now it seems we must track down one Quais Abdul Raazzaq? Curt is saying, “that this Quais Abdul Raazzaq is in fact is also Qais al-Bashir and Lt. Maithem Abdul Razzaq then the AP is in for a s&^t storm they will not believe.”

I can’t keep track of all those names, so I’ll just leave that with you. Also Jules Crittenden is thinking about Eason Jordan.

From the “Numbers, schmumbers” Department:
More civilians died under Hussein’s “peace” than Bush’s war. Yeah, but…but…at least Hussein wasn’t Bush.

Writes Bizzyblog: “And to personalize it, dear reader, unless you’ve gone on record in favor of abandoning the residents of the cities listed above to their own devices at the times they were (or are) extremely dangerous places to be, it would seem that you have no basis for contending that we should do that to the people of Iraq.”

Dude, that’s cold. Don’t rock my world, man; Bush is the biggest terrorist! He’s like Hitler, and stuff. All those numbers are just crazytalk.

From the “You think health care’s expensive now, wait until it’s free” Department: UK is stalling operations because its National Health Service is broke. You didn’t really need that by-pass, that transplant or you know, that cancerous growth removed. And you Americans don’t need to read about this, either. Move on. Nothing to see. Socialized medicine will solve all our problems. EVERYONE will have the same crappy care…except our elites in Washington, who are more special animals deserving of more special care. Their reality will not be the same as yours and mine. But then again, Fitzgerald did say the rich were different from you and me.

From the “Stop it, you’re killing me with your love” Dept: Bureaucrats stop a church kitchen from feeding the hungry because the kitchen wasn’t up to restaurant code. The story ends well…for now…but Dr. Sanity explains why some well-meaning people mean well too much.

From the “Nah, we don’t like all that ‘truth’ stuff, Barney” Department: When NYTimes ombudsman (aka “public editor”) Byron Calame’s contract is up in May, the Times thinks it may just NOT have an ombudsman, anymore. So much easier to put the book review editor online to answer a few questions about his reading preferences, and no one asks any of those uncomfortable questions about whether or not vital security information should be leaked or, you know, an abortion was really infanticide.

From the “So, what are you saying, you think we’re wusses?” Department: Jack Kelly looks at Ethiopia’s successful rout of Islamic militias.

From the “Let the show trials begin” Department: The House Ethics Committee released it’s statement on John Conyers while you were sobering up from the holidays. It seems George W. Bush is not the only arrogant imperialist in Washington. (H/T Wizbang).

From the “Let’s trash the president and GOP before the elections and then call the Dems a “sleeper cell” after they ascend” Department: That about sums up Ann Coulter, doesn’t it? Let’s see…in Coulter’s world, the Dems are horrible. Bush is horrible. Let’s just crown her now, shall we?

From the “My hotel is the one with the neon-looking windows” Department: More nuclear hotel rooms.

    Jamil Hussein, Found!

No need for Michelle Malkin and Eason Jordan to visit Iraq; just stop by the world’s most famous police captain’s blog! (Via The Anchoress, who’s a 25. I’m a 31, myself. With a 34 inseam.)…

  2. Bender B. Rodriguez Says:

I’m a 35 out of 40, same as Bob Dole, but let me tell you this — Bob Dole ain’t no conservative. Never has been, never will be. What he is, most of all, is a politician.
    .
I met Bob Dole at a campaign breakfast back in 1988, when I was supporting Jack Kemp, who later went on to become a big-government “conservative,” much to my consternation. Anyway, Bob Dole told this personal story about his early days. He said that when he got home from the war and decided to enter public service, he was unsure about whether he should run as a Republican or a Democrat. However, he noticed that most of the voters in his area were Republican, so therefore he decided that he too would be a Republican. Not for any ideological reasons, but because he would get more votes that way. Thus, in 1996, I could not in good conscience vote for Bob Dole, even though I despise(d) Clinton. I think I wrote in “Mumbly Joe,” but my memory isn’t that clear.
    .
Unfortunately, the test is from 1994, and the questions are clearly out-of-date.

    I scored a 34.
Puts me in the Bob Dole category. Strange, I thought I was much more exciting than that.

    Such amazing reads, thank you.
It is going to be a fascinating New Year.
Perhaps painful, but maybe some positive surprises are heading our way.
Maybe Cindy Sheehan will run for President?
Wondering if the new Democrat NY Governor breaks his campaign promises, as Corzine, Pelosi, etc., did before, and raises taxation?
Didn’t Ms. Gregoire in Washington State, make the same promise?
    What will Mr. Spitzer do?
NJ has the highest cost of living now, with the highest property taxes in the Nation.
Will New York seek to compete for the Corzine - McGreevy Title?

Can we even give the Dems a few days before we say they’re not willing to work with anyone? They’ve got a lot they want get dojne in the 1st 100 hours- that’s laudable. According to the Washington Post, one of the strategies the Republicans are planning to use is “obstruct, obstruct obstruct” and keep them from accomplishing anything. I work in project management- my job is to smooth things out to get things done. When it’s urgent, or you have a critical task, yes, you sideline anything and anyone who won’t help…but on other issues, when you have more time/ability, you can negotiate. I’ll wait and see.

  6. stephanie Says:

Oh- and you’ll be shocked to know that I scored a 13 on the test- which I agree, desperately needs to be rewritten!

  7. Acer Palmatum Says:

I scored a “31.” No difficulty choosing between FDR and Reagan because I viewed it as comparing their social policies (not FDR’s war president role which Ronald Reagan never had the chance to assert). FDR was in a historic position that makes him significant, but not as great as the left makes him out to be. Had Reagan been president in the 30’s maybe we would have engaged the Nazis before they became such a profound danger.

I was torn on the environmental questions. I am against higher taxes, but I differ from conservatives in thinking the Clean Air and Water Acts, ESA, and other environmental legislation more positive than negative. I would just rather see more “free market environmentalism” than EPA regulations and enforcement.

  8. benning Says:

I’m a 36. Fancy that! Some of the questions were a tad biased, but why complain? It was an interesting exercise.

Very good links, Ma’am, and not a Terfel in ‘em! Wow! LOL

  9. Memphis_Aggie Says:

I scored 34 as well - but I thought some of the questions were poorly written and left/liberal slanted. There are other political scoring “tests” that include a libertarian/authoritarian axis that I think does a better job or sorting out political views.

  10. Flopping Aces Says:

    The Humor Of Jamil Hussein

Hey, look everybody!  Capt. Jamil Hussein has his own blog: OK, the truth is I made up the thing with the burned bodies. Big deal! Have you never made anything up? After Bilal Hussein got arrested, the AP stringers moved…

  11. TheAnchoress Says:

Hmmmm…Mr. Benning, is there a problem with Mr. Terfel? Do I have to post a great deal of Terfel to get you back in line? ;-)

  12. TheAnchoress Says:

Stephanie, I can’t help but remember that when the GOP took the majority, the Dems carried on and whined, “share, share” so even though the GOP did not have to do it, they stupidly shared the committees and at least made a show of letting the Dems opine. The Dems are not even doing that. They’re basically saying, ’steamroller time.’

Hard to respect, that’s all. And sadly unsurprising.

  13. GregY Says:

Greg from Omaha’s a 24. Great minds think alike. Natural resistance and skepticism toward government solutions, but acceptance of it when necessary (practical environmental protection, limiting overly powerful corporations ala US Steel, and for God’s sake, the protection of the unborn and traditional Judeo-Christian morality).

  14. BizzyBlog » Iraq and the US: ‘Violent Death’ Stats That Will Iraq Your World Says:

[...] UPDATE 5: Thanks to Conservative Grapevine and Anchoress for the links. [...]

  15. HNAV Says:

I am sorry to see Stephanie’s commentary.
I wouldn’t care about the conception of a Majority pushing an agenda, except that the Liberal Democrats (especially in the MEDIA), declared this to be ‘criminal’ for the last 6 years with the Republican Majorities.
Has Stephanie forgotten so quickly, about Hillary Rodham’s exploitation of MLK’s MEMORIAL Day, ( a day designed to inspire all to rise above together), using ugly diatribe to divide and demean?
HIllary Rodham Clinton, who once made ethnic Jokes about Gandhi and Gas Station Owners, said “when you look at the way the House of Representations has been run, (under Republican Majorities), it has been run like a PLANTATION. And you know what I’m talkin about. It has been run in a way, so that, nobody with a contrary point of view, has had a chance to present legislation, to make an argument, to be heard…”
It was a sincerely regretful comment, lacking class, honesty, decency.
But now, after Nancy Pelosi promised to include Republican insight, these hypocrites are proving to be dishonest again.
Certainly no surprise, but the unethical manipulation, the dishonest demeanor, is worthy of note.
It is rather creepy. As if this is a form of projection…

  16. stephanie Says:

LOL…great minds think alike, Anchoress. Was just thinking how both sides whine about “sharing” when they aren’t in the majority- those of us on the sidelines, too!
I’m not a committee watcher, so can’t argue about who chairs/sits on what committee. I do seem to remember that they did not brook any challenges to pushing through their legislative agenda, though..which, frankly, is to be expected, since that’s what we elect them to do-govern based on the chosen priciples/beliefs of the majority as elected.

  17. A Blog For All Says:

Game On: Has Jamil Hussein Been Found?

That’s actually good news. There’s the potential to actually question a live body on the issues he raised in more than 60 stories, and in particular the incidents that caught Curt at Flopping Aces’ attention. This is where things get interesting.

  18. Obis_Sister Says:

I’m a 34. A little surprised, too, since I’d always considered myself a recovering liberal. But age brings wisdom, at least most of the time! ;-)

  19. JMC Says:

I’m a 25, the right-of-center score I expected, based on other similar tests I’ve taken.

As for the “Wait until it’s free” department, I once read that, in the UK, if your condition is not life-threatening, you can wait 18 months or more for your surgery, EVEN IF THE OR IS AVAILABLE IN THE MEANTIME! It doesn’t matter if your condition is excruciatingly painful, or debilitating to the point of making you unable to earn a living. You get to wait it out. Of course, the same story also told of doctors having a beer with lunch on the same day they’re performing surgery (well, okay, there are irresponsible people in all walks of life) and going out to lunch in the middle of an operation, leaving the patient OPEN on the table, under the care of the anesthesiologist. (Huh? I have serious problems even imagining that one!) It also mentions that many times, doctors see far fewer patients per day than they do here. A major point in favor of believability here is, that sort of thing is what could conceivably happen were doctors paid a flat fee by the hour or by the day or by the whatever, instead of being paid per patient, at a varying scale depending on any procedures that may or may not have been performed.
