5 things you don’t know about me

I’ll get Fausta for this, but because I am busy with a project and haven’t time to really read news and write, I’ll play along:

FIVE THINGS YOU DO NOT KNOW ABOUT ME

1) The doctor who delivered me was a WWII vet missing a leg. When I was born he held me up to the ceiling like Kunta Kinte holding Kizzy up to the stars, and began to sing “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling.” He was not Irish.

2) As a kid you couldn’t take me for a car ride of longer than ten minutes duration without a bucket. I got carsick all the time. I still dread long car rides.

3) When I was 3 or 4 I would sit on the basement steps and sing out all the Dr. Seuss books as I read them, setting them to music. We had evergreen trees on the side of the house, where moss would grow in the shady cove. I used to dig up the moss with a tablespoon, to flip it and relish the smell of dark, fresh, moist earth. My birth-mother never had enough tablespoons to serve soup.

4) I am the shortest of all of my very tall siblings.

5) For almost 20 years I have owned the same pair of black cowboy boots with red hearts on them. I wear them every Valentine’s Day. They are the most comfortable things I’ve ever worn on my feet.

Now, who shall I annoy with this meme? How about, Cobb, Jeanette, c’est moi, Gaius and Patrick O’ Hannigan.

    Thank you!

I love my cowboy boots, too. Mine don’t have hearts, though.

I have a pair of red walking shoes with which I will not part! Out of at least 50 pairs of shoes, those are my favorites.

The doctor who delivers you sounds like a character!

When I was little, I used to run unexplained, very HIGH fevers. The doctors couldn’t figure out the cause, although I was regularly hospitalized for 2 weeks at a time, hospitalizations totally 6 months over a 2 year period. Finally, my father became frustrated and took me to the GP he went to. The only honest doctor I’ve ever met. He scratched his head and said he hadn’t a clue what was wrong with me - but he figured taking out my tonsils, appendix and adenoids probably would get rid of whatever low-grade recurring infection I might have. So at age 6, that’s precisely what was done. Within 2 weeks I was recovered, in roaring good health and over a period of a year grew from being the shortest in my class to being the tallest!

So whatever the cause of those infections, thank you Dr. Frank Trump for curing me in 1948 after others had put my poor parents through the tortures of hades!

I like your post here, it’s very sweet! I particularly love the part where the doc held you up to the sky. It seems so spiritual somehow.

I’ve been in this country for a long time now…lived in Colorado and Texas and I still don’t own a set of cowboy boots. I can’t seem to bring myself to it. I do like them on others though! :-)

  4. Fausta Says:

    Viola, try these.

  5. Acer Palmatum Says:

Sorry about the Kung Fu comments–but they so fit you! I promise I will stop, but here is one last flashback exchange with Caine and Master Po:

Caine: Master, forgive me for I have failed.

Master Poe: You have not failed no one Grasshopper, only your own ambition.

    Caine: My ambition?

Master Poe: It is sometimes difficult, is it not, for you to remember that you are but a humble priest?

Caine: Yet, as a man I sometimes greatly fear that I may fail.

Master Poe: If that is our destiny, you cannot change it. But do not go in fear, Grasshopper. Fear is eternal darkness. Go instead with inner strength. For it is like a deep river, into which all streams flow. It increases, always moving forward. And soon, there is nothing that can stand in its way.

  7. Musing Minds » Five Things You Don’t Know About Me Says:

[...] Laura Lee from The Wide Awake Cafe tagged me with this meme. Almost everyone I would have tagged with it has been tagged already. The Anchoress did hers here. I think Sissy Willis was tagged twice. I don’t think Lady Jane’s been tagged yet so I’ll tag her. 1. Laura Lee spoke of her high school drama experience so I’ll speak of mine. I had the same drama teacher as Gary Sinise (he graduated a few years before I got there)[...]

[...] Check out Kim at Musing Minds. She’s posted five things about her that we didn’t know until now. The Anchoress was also tagged and revealed some funny things about her. [...]

[...] Anyway the Anchoress has unkindly taken advantage of our friendship and tagged me with a meme. [...]

  11. GJMiller Says:

Gary Sinese is a national treasure in my estimation! And there’s something about him that is unbearably sensual! He’s one heck of a fine actor as well, and unpretentious about his brilliance! I’d watch him read a phone book.

  12. Misogynist Says:

I was out with a girl the other night who knew your blog. That was quite possibly the most frightening moment in my life, more so than that tornado that tore through my block a couple of years ago.

  13. TheAnchoress Says:

Misogynist, were you frightened because she knew my blog, or because in discussing it her head spun around and she began to spit venom and call me a nazi-warblogger-christianist-evil sort? ;-)

  14. T.G. Scott Says:

It was sweet of you to share that with us. It’s refreshing to know about others’ humanity. That way, you’re not just words on a page to us.

  15. Sigmund Carl and Alfred Says:

The doc that delivered me, dropped me.

Explains a lot, don’t you think?

    Good stuff!

I, cathyf, hereby grant The Anchoress permission to wear the comfy boots at any time.
