So, my L’il Bro Thom and a few friends have been helping me find images for a new design. Yes, after 2.5 years, I’m ready for this site to look a little fresher, more alive…and also I’d like it to be use space a bit better.
I’ve been looking for a picture for my header - something along the lines of what is up there now, but in old artwork. Thom always liked my header, “It’s you!” he said, when I’d come across it.
But he seems to have changed his thinking. Today he sent me this image, swearing, “it’s you! It’s totally you! And that other pirate could be Christopher Hitchens! You’ve spent a good night drinking Guinness and agreeing on everything Iraq-ish…but now he’s gone and criticized John-Paul II!”

Alrighty, then…a small confession for Fat Tuesday: the blade is appropriate. Take your best guess, maybe I was a carnival girl who got knives thrown at her in a past life. Or something. I’ll tell you about it, sometime.
My L’il Bro Thom has too much time on his hands. And he knows me well.

Brilliant!
Drinking Guinness with Christopher Hitchens and the Anchoress? Sounds good to me–I’ll even bring the keg….

You are a big fan of romantic novels with female pirates/warriors as the protagonist?

#4 - good guess but quite wrong. I don’t like pirate protagonists at all. Someday I’ll write about the blades.

Um, you do realize that I get all the royalties for any pirate related material from any member of the Ecosphere, right?
Not sure what theme you are going for, but, the Laila 2.0 theme is awesome. It is the one I use for my main one, great for 1 sidebar themes, different photo’s for main page and for archives.

It looks to me like the unfortunate pirate in the picture is being run through with a sword. You can see the blade coming out the other side. Speaking of swords, I like the idea of a sword in your header pic. As Chesterton said about a sword: “It is like the Truth - it cuts both ways.”

My guess about you and blades: You share the same fondness that Julia Child’s had: You really like good knives in the kitchen.

I found a photo of a stained glass window depicting Joan of Arc that made me think “Anchoress” in a window-frame of mind…

But I think the email icon you’ve already picked out for yourself is classier:

I would seriously think about bumping that pic up to the top!
