March 21, 2007Yeehaw, today’s round-up!And we’ll start by noting that Sister Toldjah is sayin’ The Cowboy is Back. That would be Dubya, who has apparently roused himself into sufficient anger to tell the congress that no, they may not subvert the constitution by infringing upon the separations of power and inserting themselves into the executive branch. As Ed Morrissey points out, Bush really didn’t have any other option to play. As the Moderate Voice points out, this non-story, non-scandal is now important. It’s important because the Dems have made it important - they’re provoking a constitutional crisis simply because they want to and they can. You like that? Still, it’s nice to see Bush fighting back on this entirely political hit-job and about damn time, but when will the president ask the Dems when they’re going to move beyond “everyday-in-everyway, we play politics with everything” and actually get serious about something besides “getting Bush.” Can they get serious and constructive on the war, on National Security, on Education, on Social Security, on Immigration and the thousands of other issues that do not get addressed while they play this game? (“We need more troops! Oh, no! He’s sending more troops! We want fewer troops!”) What are their ideas? What are their solutions? Oh, I forgot - as we learned in 2006 - they don’t have to offer ideas or solutions. They just have to make noise, bring charges, ignore findings (“Armitage ‘outted’ Plame? Doesn’t matter! Bushies did it!”) allow the right to divide-and-conquer itself and then appropriate it into a soundbite their pals will play over and over again. But that doesn’t mean we should just lay down, does it? And Shrinkwrapped wisely warns the Dems to be careful what they wish for since - as the Republicans already learned - you bite the office of the president when you’re out of power, it all comes back to bite your own ass, when you’re in power. Don Surber has quite a lot to say about this DOJ story and he says it here, rounding up the little dawgies as he goes. Patterico remembers the Clinton side of this equation, Hot Air has more, and so does Jeanette. Ah, too late; The subpoenas have begun. No, the Dems will not be getting serious, anytime soon. Hey, it’s what you voted (or sat out) for. In a serious age, we get one trumped-up non-story demanding-costly-investigations-after another and not much else. What a world. Check out the picture of Al Gore over at Sister’s site and marvel at the Adam-and-Evie paradise that will come about if only we obey the Book of Gore. I’m not watching today’s media-event, but many are, and Sister has good links. Doug Ross provides a dose of snark. Dr. Helen is talking Bumper Stickers and what they mean. I’ve always found it a fascinating question - what does it mean, what does it say about you, when you need to plaster your opinion (negative or positive) on your car. Is that the ultimate - and pathetic - “I belong to something, somewhere and so I’m special” statement? I’ve always thought so. Siggy on the pendulum of prayer. I bet some are surprised to see a shrink write so eloquently, so often, on matters of faith - and with such wisdom on the issue of prayer. He’s a surprising fellow and this is a particularly good piece on how comes to us and flows from us to others, marking time in an especial way. Don’t miss it. Speaking of shrinks, the Sanity Squad Podcast is up over at Pajamas Media, so go listen in on Neo-Neocon, Pat Santy, Shrinkwrapped and Siggy and their very interesting chat about Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and how quickly some needed to pooh-pooh as much of his confession as they could. I’m still thinking of doing a broadcast one of these days. I cannot listen to this woman’s voice. Goes right up the spine and makes my hands spasm. Fausta’s blog is banned in China. A mark of honor, I’d say. She has a keen eye trained on Chavez, here. Don’t miss Jules Crittenden who explains how for some, losing is winning in the US of A We have a choice. I think winning is a better way to win, myself. How do you like your poetry? If you like it translated for you, Gerald at Closed Cafeteria, a scholar with a baseball bat tucked under each arm, has translated Rainer Maria Rilke’s The Life of Mary and it’s pretty affecting stuff. I don’t know how Gerald finds time to do all he does. Please, Papa Ratzi, replace this guy and send him somewhere to hear nuns confessions, or something! Need some cute, after all that? Here you go, via Impromptu Librarian I’m going to be tied up for most of today and tonight trying to finish a project that seems like it will never end. More later. http://theanchoressonline.com/2007/03/21/yeehaw-todays-round-up/trackback/ 9 Responses to “Yeehaw, today’s round-up!” |

Anchoress, did you notice how many people commented on Dr. Helen’s bumper sticker post. I found that so interesting.
Also, I am so glad you keep us updated on Siggy’s site. The last time you did, I read his post on the burning bush. It was outstanding. I will go over and read his post on Prayer right now.
You have been on my heart today and my prayers are with you!

don’t worry, all projects have an end, eventually…
thanks for all the fine links.
“Can they get serious and constructive on the war, on National Security, on Education, on Social Security, on Immigration and the thousands of other issues that do not get addressed while they play this game? ”
unfortunately, no…
so sorry, voters gave Pelosi the gavel.
hopefully, after Democrats focus more on the light bulb, than upon dealing with monstrous radical Muslim Terrorists, the American Public will take the power entrusted to the juveniles away in 2008.

I saw my first “Hillary for President” bumper sticker last night when I was driving home. I nearly ran my car off the road!

I cannot listen to this woman’s voice. Goes right up the spine and makes my hands spasm.
Every time I hear Hillary speak I remember how Cramer used to convulse when he’d listen to Mary Hart’s voice.

Re: Bumper stickers. I have three. One is a gift from my sister– “Get in, Set Down, Shut up and Hold ON!”– one is a “never meddle …(with) dragons (or they’ll eat you)” type, and the third is “Viva Bush!” from ‘04. I put it on because I was tired of all the accusations against the Prez, and I’ve kept it on because they’re still going.

The bumper sticker on my car says. . .So Many Notes ~ So Little Time!
My favorite Hillary bumper sticker is one I saw when she was running for the Senate. ‘If You Really LOVE NY, Send Hillary Back to Arkansas’
I teach in Southern Maryland and once saw a bumper sticker advertising a taxidermist business. . .You Snuff ‘Em, We Stuff ‘Em!
