When abandonment is suddenly “good policy”

Didn’t George Clooney make a movie a few years ago called Three Kings, wherein the Iraqi people were shown to be victims of the Bush 41 Administration’s inability to keep its promise to the people of Iraq, due to political considerations? That was deemed - correctly - a negative sort of thing.

Why is it suddenly a positive thing for Congress to want to umm…rather unilaterally abandon the Iraqi people, once again…due to political considerations?

The Iraqis, not stupid people, are already pleading, please don’t abandon us.

Oh, that wacky side of the aisle and their staggering double standards! My sides hurt. Or they would if it were not true that Al Qaeda is still feeling quite murderous, and in Iraq…just crossing days off their calendar and waiting for us to leave.

Oh, didn’t you know? You’re only supposed to make heartstring-tugging movies, speeches, benefit dinners, etc. about all the Bad Places in the world.

You’re not supposed to actually do anything about any of them.

It’s all about looking like you care to these folks.

Kinda like all those Volvos driving around with a “Free Tibet” bumpersticker. When have those folks acually done something about it?
