May 23, 2007Dems straddle failure; Iraqis unite against AlQaedaIt’s what we’d been hoping would happen, so this is good news out of Iraq. If I were a Democrat, I’d really be pinning my kite to an idea of victory over one of surrender, but then again I’m not a smart politician surrounded by intellectuals, and I have no polls by which to guide my thinking, so I’m stuck thinking for myself. Betsy points out that Bob Kerrey is trying to warn the Democrats away from the wrong side of history. The Democrats have more to worry about than coming up as being against victory; they’re having problems manifesting their “the most ethical congress, ever” vision, or even simply passing their vaunted “First 100 Hours Legislative Package” within well, more than 100 days. As Ed Morrissey writes:
I remember when the Clinton administration was going to “hit the ground running” and be “the most ethical administration ever.” Pelosi said essentially the same thing about her congress. Seems to me if you have to tell everyone how ethical you are, well, that’s because it’s not obvious on the surface. My favorite line on the increasingly transparent truth that the Democrat Emperors of Ethics have no clothes is by Glenn Reynolds, writing yesterday:
and writing today:
Read the links. I’m sure there are ethical Democrats in office in Congress. Unfortunately they do not seem to be the ones in leadership positions, and this Pelosi and Pals crew is really pretty deplorable. If I were still a Democrat, I’d be feeling pretty ill-served. Not that I don’t feel ill-served by the GOP, too, but if you voted in these folks believing they were going to somehow, magically be different, better creatures than the basic Washington Freakshow, well…you’ve got to be feeling pretty disappointed, if you’re honest. Meanwhile the press, once again, spills intelligence. http://theanchoressonline.com/2007/05/23/sunni-and-shiia-fight-alqaeda/trackback/ 5 Responses to “Dems straddle failure; Iraqis unite against AlQaeda” |

Oh, that last little throw away line - “the press, once again, spills intelligence.”
Was I the only one screaming at the radio, “If it’s secret, you idiots, why are you telling us about it??”

Don’t you think it is time to resurrect the idea of term limits? People like Pelosi, Murtha and others on both sides of the aisle are really in Congress to feather their own nests. Look at Feinstein and Pelosi both have helped their husbands bottom line due to political influence. The Democrats failure to censure Murtha for his behavior is really not shocking at all it is business as usual with the losers we elect on both sides. Every Congress seems to have members that are ethically challenged but the system is the real culprit and responsible for the cause and effect issues relating to ethical lapses and outright power abuses.

I wish term limits were a straight forward answer. However, we are seeing growing evidence of a “shadow government” in the bureaucrats that people the beltway. This treasonous leak is just the latest proof, which will be ignored like the Plame nonsense, the Sandy Burglar caper, the data mining leak and the numerous books and other drivel coming from CIA and State Dept employees.
These people are largely liberal, some very far left, and are in a union protected situation in many cases. They have also been systematically undercutting this President, who, in a effort of bipartisian inclusiveness, did not clean out these organizations filled with left wing career employees. (And in some cases he could not have done so if he wanted to…) And these unelected, unaccountable folks are leaking, procrastinating, NOT ENFORCING EXISTING LAWS (like the IRS NEVER having prosecuted anyone for mismatched W2 forms. W2 forms generally end up mismatched when illegal aliens forge/steal identities.)
They think the elected officials are “summer help” already, and continue to work their own agendas. This would only get much worse with term limits, depending on the specifics.
But these people in these jobs should not be allowed to set policy in opposition to the administration, whoever it is. Of course, they object, and torpedo, Republicans much more often them Dems, as Dems align more closely to their worldview.
This is the real danger of big government. Unelected people are setting policy and regulation. The largest unions are getting to be those that represent these government workers. It takes on a life of its own. And government employees, as an interest group, have too much control now over perpetuating their existence. Term limits will give them even more control.
Like immigration policy, the rats’ nest needs to be cleared,(the borders closed) then term limits might have a chance to work.
