Bush on volunteerism, uncovered

There are no news stories about it - naturally - but President Bush met with the Little Sisters of the Poor today and talked about volunteerism.

…there are volunteers here in the community who have taken time out of their busy schedules to volunteer to help somebody. And that’s one of the messages of the Christmas season, that I hope our fellow citizens reach out and find a neighbor in need, find out somebody who needs a loving pat on the back, or somebody who could use a little help in learning how to read, or an elderly citizen who wants to know that somebody cares for them…

There is video at the site.

Seems to me if Bill Clinton discussed volunteerism - even without nuns around him - while he was president, that would have been covered. Perhaps only Clintons get that sort of coverage. Bush gets as little coverage as possible by the “mediating intelligences” of the press, and only the negative stuff, to boot.

But there are a few pictures, at least.

I shouldn’t be cynical. How can the press cover the President of the United States when there are not one but two Clintons serving up high soap-opera every day, and silly republicans whacking each other over religion? In a serious age we are surrounded by silliness, and silliness is what we are served.

The Little Sisters of the Poor are a venerable, hard-working and thriving group of sisters. I’ve had the good luck to meet a few. Wonderful women.

In the past, we have donated goods, such as furniture to the Little Sisters of the Poor. They distribute to all in need, not just Catholics or Christians. Not only are they efficient and loving, they are true ambassadors to all of what it means to be kind and charitable.

Kudos to our president for honoring them and shame on the MSM for ignoring this gallant gesture and these dedicated women.
