If it’s the day before a Tuesday primary, Hillary must be crying again!.
Sen. Hillary Clinton teared up this morning at an event at the Yale Child Study Center, where she worked while in law school in the early 1970s.
A doctor, who was introducing Clinton, began to choke up, leading Clinton’s eyes to fill with tears, which she wiped out of her left eye. At the time, the doctor was saying how proud he was that sheepskin-coat, bell-bottom-wearing young woman he met in 1972 was now running for president.
How come Hillary only cries when it’s about her? In New Hampshire she gets asked, “how do you do it, how are you so wonderful,” and she cries. Now it’s “look at our little girl, all grown up” and she cries. Never for anyone else. The tears are always for her, and always just before a primary that looks iffy.
I’m not feeling well today, so maybe that’s why I want to throw up. Or maybe, it’s not the bug.
Tears in New Hampshire and she won. Will it work for her again? What do you think?
Says Ed Morrissey:
Just as it was in New Hampshire, she teared up after hearing what a great person she is and isn’t it just wonderful to see her succeed!
Meanwhile, Matt Stearns takes a look at her biography and sees much less compassion in it than the Hillary campaign claims…
If we hand over our wages for her social programs do you think she’ll stop crying?
Allah notes the co-incidence.
Glenn Reynolds says the tears only work once
Seems some are buying it.

Welcome: CQ Readers. While you’re here, please look around, today I’m asking Romney supporters to convince me of the Merits of Mitt, without using the words “John McCain.” I’m also wondering how “faith-based” politics can become so frezied and I’m which candidate you’d want to share a meal with.

It’s not just you dear, although I hope you feel better soon. Barry’s catching up and/or ahead of her in the polls so it’s time to break out the onions or look into a bright light to bring on the tears…

It Will All Begin In Tears…
A make-or-break primary date looms within hours, and once again the focus falls on whether Hillary Clinton can blunt the momentum of the political neophyte Barack Obama. What can she do? She can fall back on the strategy that helped her to a surprise w…

What a gag-bag she is! She only cries about herself….can anyone say “narcissism”? Her widdle heart is broken that some old meanies are trying to deny her–the noble, entitled, perfect She–her rightful throne.

Again, before an important primary day and when the subject is herself. From Captain’s Quarters via The Anchoress: Well, it worked once, didn’t it? And once again, the subject that brought tears to her eyes wasn’t poverty, health care…

Like husband, like wife. I have the infamous video of Bill Clinton morphing from party dude to mournful friend when he sees the camera at Ron Brown’s funeral.

I for one am praying that God give the Dem voters to see through this ploy.
‘Cause that’s what it is. The emotion may be genuine, but Hillary is a good enough pol to only emote when she wants to. I didn’t see her emoting on 9/11 or in 1994 when her health care proposal didn’t go through or in 1998 when her husband was impeached or after SC when she lost the primary or …
… the point being, this is not just a ploy but an obvious manipulative ploy. Only fools would be taken in by it. I pray that God give the Dem voters wisdom not to be fools in this instance.

I hope this doesn’t take attention away from Erica Jong’s “endorsement” of Hillary in this morning’s WaPo. She captures perfectly what the Clinton campaign is about; Michael Chabon does the same for Obama. Dems in doubt should read them both and decide which campaign they want to continue for ten more months.

This is a woman who does NOT react, except with a coy smile, when an older woman in her audience within the last few days labeled the president of the United States a “bastard”. None of the hue and cry that resulted when John McCain called HRC a “bitch” - which is an accurate (albeit perjorative) term for a female vertebrate. Since there is absolute proof that our President’s parents were quite securely married at the time of his conception and his birth, this offensive woman who thus insulted his parents and his parentage could actually be sued. McCain could not have been.
Granted - this older woman was also pushing the thesis of the North American Union - only slightly less nutty a theory than the “truthers” who believe 9/11 was an “inside job”.
I digress - HRC is never, ever, ever called on her offensive and despicable behavior, whilst everyone else is held to a higher standard. From the other candidates, at least on the Republican side of the aisle, is demanded civility and dignity. Apparently the ability to walk upright is all that is required of Democrats.
What I truly believe is that our entire political process is hopelessly skewed, fractured and more than a little insane. These candidates have been campaigning since the day after the General Election in 2006 - is it any wonder that they’re all NUTS?

What frightens me is how many people but into such phoniness.
How can you expect a power hungry Machiavellian to pass up such low hanging fruit?
February 4th, 2008 at 7:53 pm
Aw, c’mon, think of the dragonladies you’ve known of in your life. I can very easily picture Miz C, towards the end of a hard-fought, frustrating campaign, after getting word that hubby Bill has just done or said something so stupidly tone-deafedly arrogant that the voters in the state of _____ are abandoning her in droves, taking Bill by the hand and leading him out to the deserted and unlit back lot, where she quickly and without warning slits his throat and then steps back quickly to avoid muss.
And as he looks up at her and weakly, wetly, gasps “but, why, Hil?”, she looks down at him, and says “it wasn’t working out, Billy.”
And a solitary tear will be seen slipping down her cheek. ‘Cuz, you know, it’s hard being Hil.

I am as much a cynic as anybody, but it is quite possible it is genuine. Some tough women I have known could handle anything thrown their way…..except kindness, because they have gone through life only knowing coldness. Not saying it is the case here, but it would not surprise me either.
I have known strong women who reacted in EXACTLY the same way when shown a sudden kindness.
Not that I am going to vote for her, but I am not going to impose judgement just yet either.

She’s not a monster, or a crocodile, or an android…
I wouldn’t vote for her, but c’mon, she’s still a person!

Kip you’re right. And she’s allowed to cry. And the truth is, I actually believe she meant it yesterday. But it was too much of a coincidence…the day before a primary, again?

I may be dating myself a bit here, but does anyone else remember a western by the name of “Big Hand for the Little Lady”? The reason I bring it up is because Hillary reminds me of this movie in every way. The lead character is a poor settler who’s husband dies in the middle of a card game, and she has to carry on. She cries, she begs, she wheedles, and eventually she wins the pot.
Turns out the whole thing was a scam. She’s a con artist. What’s even worse is she tries to defend the whole scheme when someone admits they cheated. “We bluffed them. It may have had some frills on it, but we were bluffing them all the same.”
I don’t honestly believe Hillary can’t feel emotions; but I don’t think she sees anything wrong in convenient tears, either. To her the election is a prize to be won, and any and all tactics, including a good “bluff”, are acceptable. Worse, she may have been sincere in her tears, and still been using them as a tactic. I strongly doubt a woman of such determination would ever accidentally cry. She would just hold it back if it wasn’t to her advantage.
For her there is no line between good and bad, right and wrong, so long as it advances her agenda. Therefore, sincere or not, the tears will flow. Not because she feels that way (even if she does), but because it’s tactically sound. And that is what disgusts me.
