February 19, 2008Castro/Columbus/Catholicism & everything in betweenIf you’re following the step-down of Fidel Castro, Fausta’s is the place to be - she’s got the best round-up. Some of the headlines, however, make Castro sound like he’s primed for Sainthood, and Newsbusters is keeping tabs on the glows and halos. Speaking of glows and halos, I think I linked to this piece a little bit ago, but it’s worth running again, as we anticipate the next groovy-sounding lunar eclipse. And speaking of saints, the Vatican is slowing down the process…because things work way too fast over there at the Vatican! Speaking of Catholic, Julie at Happy Catholic - my favorite Catholic blog and the one I just nominated as best all-round Catholic Blog for the 2008 Catholic Blog Awards - is pointing us to a new Catholic Apologetics Blog, The Raft on the Tiber, and recommending it for all of your Catholic Wonderings. Looks great. Speaking of Julie, she’s posted a book review of Jane Lebak’s Seven Archangels: Annihilation, that had me scurrying over to Amazon for my copy. A little Sci-Fi to spice up the Lenten/Easter reading? Why not? Speaking of writing, I have a piece up over at Pajama Media entitled, Mama, We’re All RINO’S Now! which has made a few people angry, but really - I think a lot of the commentors are making my point for me. Speaking of investigating, folks are starting to look at the substantial mushmouth for clues to what Obama’s rhetoric really means. Cindy McCain wonders if Michelle Obama really has never been proud of America before this election cycle, but nobody seems to be investigating whether Obama really can heal the nation’s soul. Imagine if George Bush’s wife had ever made such a claim, the uproar! Speaking of Bush, he is still a good man who has done good things while being treated reprehensibly by the press and many in his own party. Speaking of another good man, and what’s important, watch the video and take a moment to recall what really matters. It’s not most of the stuff that you’ve just read about. It’s appears obvious to me that if Obama gets the nomination, unlike Hillary and the “big machine” he “should” be easily deflatable by November. Between his Jackie Kennedy want a be wife (I expect any day now she will come out with the pillbox hat to match the pearls and flip hairstyle), and his rhetorical fluff, something will give. Perhaps the new line will be “Michelle, you ain’t no Jackie Kennedy.”
Re: Obama being good for America’s Soul
I continue to be astonished at the “movement” behind nothing but empty words and promises. The guy is clearly a far left radical. Sadly, the same things that Obama so passionately stands for are the same things that have taken America off God and family. Like Jonah Goldberg said during an interview, “America is looking for a political messiah” when the truth is, our hope can only ever be in God, not politicians.
My only fear is that as “obvious” as it appears that Obama can be seen for what he really is before November, I am not totally convinced, owing to our moral relative culture, that it will even matter. I wonder if many think about what this country will be like with Obama as POTUS and God help us all, his “hope talk” turns out to have been just that, talk!

I thought your post at PJM was great. And I agree with every word. I do think their little third party will fail to do anything other than help Democrats win, if it does that.
Limbaugh can become the Nadar of the right. If that makes sense. I remember back in 2000 all those Democrats were so mad at Nadar because he split the left vote. He is still around, but I doubt if that is a lesson the left will forget any time soon. Maybe the right will have to learn the same lesson.
