Here’s something that may cheer you up. Well, it’s actually an overview of next season lineups at nearby opera companies, but there are two clips: Andreas Scholl, perhaps the greatest counter-tenor alive, singing Che faro, from Orfeo ed Euridice, and the submlime Montserrat Caballe singing “Se pietá di me non senti” from Handel’s Guilio Cesare. Dreadful costume and makup, but who cares? No soprano has ever had more control than Caballe. Her voice floats effortlessly all the way to the top, something no other soprano has ever been able to accomplish to that degree. Listen for the floating pianissimos at the very top. Simply unparalleled.

Your health is important to all of us who view you with affection, admiration and respect. Not to mention your family who - sensibly - love you.
