This election season is so mad - and things seem so overheated - that I’m calling a retreat!
Mark your calendars! From sundown to sundown, August 10 through August 16, this site will be hosting an online retreat, and all are welcome, regardless of creed, ideology or whatever. There will be no politics discussed, except as relevant in a historical way, to discussion. Look forward to meditations, optional prayer on audio files, presentations on belief and disbelief, literary ideas, music and fine art.
What I am intending is a REAL retreat from which - as with any good retreat - you can take as little or as much as you wish. Whether you fully withdraw from the political for the week is something you’ll have to determine, insofar as your job, your inclinations and your life will allow.
Will go into further detail as the weeks unfold.

Count me in! I need a retreat, especially from the political stuff.
Thank you so much for this opportunity.

lsus- the retreat will not be strictly Catholic - there will be Christian themes, but also contributions by non-Christians and yer completely secular agnostic-types.
When I said all would be welcome, I really, really meant it.
But I am happy that St. Clare’s feast will fall during that week; aside from being a life-long patroness of mine, she is the patron of television, so…there’s a sort of connection with these screens. Also, Kolbe - one of my new favorite heroes - has his feast that week, so yes…I will note both.

Speaking of calendars, three more of these and you can make one.

You may be interested to note that your retreat begins after the fast of Tisha’b'Av, during which the Jewish people commemorate the destruction of the first and second temples.
We are currently in the 3 Weeks of Mourning, during which we “diminish joy” in order to be able to feel the sense of loss. After the fast on the 9th of the month of Av (Tisha’b'Av), we quietly resume normal life in the spirit of the words of the prophet Isaiah, “Comfort, O Comfort My people”.
May the retreat take place in an appropriate atmosphere of spiritual comforting and rebuilding. It’s a lovely idea, and I think this is a better tack than “giving up politics for Lent” was.

And Elder Son was an absolutely precious little baby - and I’ll bet he’s even more handsome now!

Anchoress, I think this is such a nice idea. I hope it will be encouraging and refreshing for all of us.
