CSPAN: Don’t blame us! - UPDATED

The Crypt has a statement from CSPAN - who are apparently getting angry phone calls over the cameras being closed during the Mr. Smith Republicans revolt.

A number of media organizations have incorrectly referred to ‘C-SPAN cameras’ being turned off and not providing televised coverage of the GOP House members’ post-adjournment protest on energy policy being held on the House floor on Friday afternoon. Please note that cameras in the House chamber are under the control of the Speaker of the House and that all media organizations, including C-SPAN, wishing to cover events in the chamber must use the official House TV feed. No private media cameras are permitted in the House (or Senate) chambers.” [emphasis mine - admin]

The Pelosi, who likes her controls, controls the communications. And the lights, the air conditioning, the microphones.

So, to recap: The Pelosi is trying to save the planet. She and her party want “alternative fuels” to take precedence, but they don’t want nuclear power; other alternative fuels are expensive and not yet abundant, we’re burning food for fuel (which is morally questionable) she and her party don’t care if the gas prices go to $10.00 a gallon (see video). Obama wants to give everyone $1,000 to buy heating oil this winter (I’m not clear on that, does “everyone” mean $1,000 to everyone, even in the sunbelt states, or just the folks who really need heating oil?) but I know here in NY $1,000 will not even fill my heating oil tank, and besides, I don’t want the government to give me $1,000 for heating oil…I want the government to help provide abundant oil supplies until all those alternative fuels are ready to go. I want my nation to be free of dependence on foreign oil, which every president and congress has talked about since the ’70’s but none has worked toward.

And Mrs. Pelosi does not want to allow open debate. She will not allow a vote she cannot control to come to the floor.

So, since private video cameras are not permitted in chamber, and since Pelosi controls the CSPAN cameras - it appears The Revolution Will Be Twittered.

Called Blunt: (202) 225-6536. I told him I was hopeful about all this change.

UPDATE: The revolt is over. Sigh. Knew it wouldn’t last, but I hope it’s the start of something good.

Meanwhile, Jimmie Bise rips into Obama’s $1,000-fixes-everything nonsense. He’s pretty merciless.

[...] The Anchoress was not remiss in noticing the Republicans taking the fight for a non-idiotic energy policy to Nancy Pelosi and her Merry Band of Scaredy Cats. IN the midst of her post, she dropped this: Obama wants to give everyone $1,000 to buy heating oil this winter (I’m not clear on that, does “everyone” mean $1,000 to everyone, even in the sunbelt states, or just the folks who really need heating oil?) but I know here in NY $1,000 will not even fill my heating oil tank, and besides, I don’t want the government to give me $1,000 for heating oil…I want the government to help provide abundant oil supplies until all those alternative fuels are ready to go. I wish they’d hung out longer, but 5 was sort of a logical shutdown time, I guess. It was indeed fun, and maybe it will inspire McCain to stick his head up.

This is a pretty safe topic for him to try to nail Obama on. Not that I’m standing on one leg waiting or anything, but one can hope.
