I’m sitting here right now with my jaw on the floor. I cannot believe what I am reading on the forums of the far-left.
I’m not going to link to them - you know where to find them - or even bother quoting their incredible, insane prattle.
They’re in trouble over there. They’re in serious trouble of the mind, and trouble of the heart and trouble of the soul. They are so paranoid, and so full of hate, at this point, that they are clinging to an insane idea - one that betrays a sort of soul-sickness that leaves me feeling both incredulous and chilled.
How much do you have to love your hate in order to surrender your reason, and your humanity, to it?
Sarah Palin has been in the race for what, three days, four? In that very short time she has so deranged the left that they are revealing something truly awful within them.
It’s not just the thrill of creating a stupid conjecture for these people - that’s just normal campaign garbage. But now that it has clearly been debunked these folks have a need - and in some of these people it seems to be a truly deep need - to cling to the fantasy so that they can keep hating, so that they can continue to believe the absolute worst thing they can; because that’s what they want to believe…the absolute very worst.
How sick is this? It is meant, I guess, to shield them from any possibility that their worldview might be altered, or penetrated.
This seems like massive insecurity, to me. And I wonder if they even know what their worldview is, since…these same people who say women’s children and family lives should not affect their careers are the ones who (at their mildest) are demanding that Palin go home and stay out of politics until absolutely nothing is happening in her family.
These people are afraid; and their fear is making them mad and reckless. They sound like wild, rabid creatures, out of their heads, and they’re starting to worry me. I begin to think they have surpassed the madness of the right at its Clinton-hating worst. Hell, I think they’re surpassing the left at its Bush-hating worst. And I didn’t think that could be surpassed!
And there is a difference, too. Clinton and Bush “hate” grew over time to the insane levels. These people admit they knew nothing about Palin before John McCain announced her, yet their hate for her was immediate and electric. It is not sane. It is disturbingly unnatural. It is almost supernatural.
There is some sanity to be found on the issue of Sarah Palin and Bristol Palin - and we need to find it, to get the stink of madness off of us - so let’s go.
In Time Magazine, there is a very good piece which, if the sad, sick people on those forums are interested - makes it pretty clear that Bristol’s pregnancy was known in Wasilla, Alaska where the Palins live, and pretty much a non-issue.
I just got off the phone with a longtime Wasilla resident. She had urged me to find time today to go up to Hatcher Pass—”the most beautiful place in the valley!”—when I mentioned that the story on Bristol’s baby is now national news. Her voice slowed. “Oh,” she said. “I’m so sorry. That’s so unfair.”
Wasilla seems at times to be utterly without guile. It’s a large part of the town’s charm, and it’s exactly the quality that could make an unorthodox pick like Palin pay off. Don’t get me wrong — she’s a tough politician with sharp enough elbows on her own. But still, she appears to be more steeped in the values of her hometown than any politician I’ve ever come across.

If you haven’t guessed yet, the people here are genuinely friendly…All weekend they had the decency not to pretend that they didn’t know the governor’s eldest daughter was pregnant. But they also expected decency in return, that I wouldn’t be the kind of person to make sport out of a young girl’s slip.
The fact is, regardless of what you will hear over the next few days, Bristol’s pregnancy is not a legitimate political issue. Sarah Palin is a longterm member of a group called Feminists for Life, which is not opposed to birth control. So you probably can’t tag her for consigning young people to unwanted pregnancies.
I wrote this morning that Ed Morrissey would be the blogger to watch on this story and he put up a great post:
First, this is not some catastrophe, although it is hardly an optimal situation. As Harold Ramis remarked in Knocked Up, a hurricane is a catastrophe — which we can easily see today. A baby is new life, an addition to the family, and most people would welcome this. And many can never experience that joy, either. It is a blessing, as long as people don’t treat it like a catastrophe.
Our son and daughter-in-law had just started their senior year in high school when they became pregnant, and I use that pronoun deliberately. The two of them formed their own unit and held each other up during a terribly stressful year. Meanwhile, we parents had to support them as best we could, and make sure they knew we loved and supported them through it all. In return, we discovered two wonderful adults who had just been children shortly before, and when the Little Admiral came, two wonderful parents as well.
None of this was easy, and we certainly all had our moments during this stressful time. However, we took each day as it came…
The Palins all chose life and lived their values. That doesn’t strike me as news, as we already saw that with her commitment to her son Trig. The Democrats won’t dare mention this as a campaign issue, and even the blogs will probably leave it alone soon enough. Most people, I’d say, will wish Bristol and the Palins well. None of us quit our jobs to help our son and daughter-in-law cope, and neither will Sarah Palin, because it’s unnecessary.
I love the smell of sanity in the afternoon!

I’m not naive enough to think the “Trig wasn’t really Palin’s baby” rumors show how awful the Left is; this sort of venom is, unfortunately, an equal-opportunity human characteristic and not a trait merely of one side or another. Case in point: the accusations that Vince Foster was murdered by the Clintons. And yes, I am well aware that the details are different. But the impulse to cruelty and the level of fantasy is the same.
Neo relates that Dr. Sanity is back on the blogs, and with a vengeance, posting a rip-roaring one on the projections of the left.
But because he happens to be a Conservative Republican, her choices and judgement and will as a woman don’t count in the leftist ‘mind’. In truth, she has shown more integrity and strength of character in that one decision, than most of those who are currently demonizing her have shown in their entire lives–or certainly than I was able to muster up when I was 16 years old and found myself pregnant due to my own irresponsible behavior.

I’d just like to ad that now the press is murmuring “abstinence only, abstinence only,” their new phrase of the day. I personally believe that a comprehensive sex ed class should include abstinence information. But it must be said - because it’s true - that after 40 years of sex ed, free condom distribution, etc, etc…teenagers still get pregnant all the time.

And I thought Bush Derangement Syndrome was bad. Now we have the equivalent of Palin Truthers. I guess the only way the attacks would be worse is if McCain had picked a black conservative. Just reading the attacks make me feel a little slimy and wanting to go pray instead.

Dear Anchoress, you so right, the left has become unhinged with their hatred of Sarah Palin. The Daily Kos crowd reminds me of this past Sunday’s Mass readings, they have so conformed themselves to the world and the liberal agenda that they seem willing to sell their souls for the Democratic party. As a daily reader of your blog, your insights and updates are helpful in maintaining one’s composure in the face of the hate from the left and the media’s hypocrisy against Palin is so palpable it takes one’s breath away.

Sarah Palin seems fairly upfront about who she is. She, to borrow a cliche, walks the talk. While with Barack, he is his brother’s keeper. Unless, of course, you actually are his brother…then you live in squalid poverty.
Sarah Palin is the woman feminists have been saying for years women should be. She worked hard, rose on her own merits (she didn’t, cough, cough, get elected as carpetbag Senator based on her famous husband’s last name, cough), she took on the patriarchy and she won.
She just had the unforgivable bad taste to be a Republican and a woman who seems to practice her faith in her daily life, not simply when it’s conveniently public.

What do you do with all of the pregnant teenagers that don’t have parents that they can get financial and emotional support from?

[Bring it ON? Why so hostile, pbuchta? Why cant you just ask your valid question without the sneering "bring it on?" Why can't you be civil? Has anyone here been uncivil to you?
What do we do with "all" the pregnant teens who don't have a support system? Well, I can only speak for my local parish and my diocese, but we try to do everything we can for them. What I've heard from friends who work at Birthright and parishes, or various homes (Good Counsel Homes and Sisters of Life to name two, if you're actually interested; they could use donations, always) is that for those girls and women who really have no place to go, no family to rely on, no friends to help, no support network (or those women who need to get away from an abusive situation) we find housing for them, we help them with expenses and training in care of the child. Most of the houses I know allow a mother to live in the housing for up to a year after giving birth so they can finish school, learn a skill or find an adequate job and a place to live. The help they get is personal help, not government help, so you don't hear about it, much. MOST parishes (and Christian churches) I know of will do stuff like that to help a girl in need, either by finding housing or helping with jobfinding, and then support or help finding day care. I know one church nearby that helps young women (and men) prepare resumes and then has a sort of "store" where they can pick out job-searching clothes.
It's easy to say "what is your political party doing; what is your GOVERNMENTAL program. But President Bush (and - it must be said - Barack Obama) know that the best way to help people in need is through the local communities and particularly the faith-based networks that do a great deal you never hear about, because no one champions them. Government has its functions, but the people who got the most help from Katrina were not the ones in the FEMA housing, waiting for the government to get to them, but the ones who found themselves taken in by the churches, and helped with jobs, housing, etc. You could look it up.
I guess that's our platform. Help people in need, through the churches and the local communities. There MAY be churches that demand you be a member to receive help...but I don't know any. - admin]

Unfortunately evil rears its ugly head and in this case it seems to be a many headed evil. Hate is evil. It is also scary to me. I have lived a long time and seen a lot of political schenanigans but this goes way beyond mischief into pure evil.

The Herod Party simply cannot let Sarah Palin and family survive. It is imperative that they and anyone close to them must be slaughtered. But their hate against the good is so all-consuming that it has blown up like a nuclear fireball in their faces, incinerating themselves more than anyone else.
They have been so extreme, so fast that other more reasonable people see them for the grotesque, twisted, and decayed monstrosities that they have become. More than one reasonable Democrat or moderate has reached the limits of their ability to tolerate the repugnant. Ultimately, hate does not reap a great harvest, it only ends up consuming itself.

The Democrat Partisans have been like this for years now.
Many are very young, who simply lack an understanding of how ugly this bigotry really has become.
The popularity of hating those who appear to be on a different side of this fashionable politically correct mantra - dogma, is terribly concerning.
At times, it reminds one of the extreme dehumanizing of humanities darkest hours.
Imagine, the bias against a Republican, forced so many Liberal Democrats to oppose the liberation of the brutally oppressed Iraqi People, to suggest the World would be better off with a Monster named Saddam to remain in power, and to wish for the defeat of the FREE WEST trying to build a FREE Democracy with the newly Liberated Iraqi Millions.
Some of these extreme Liberal Partisans, even created a bizarre conspiracy theory, claiming the entire 9-11 Terrorist Attack, was really the product of the Government of the United States.
It doesn’t become more delusional and misguided as this…

It is likely that many of these are young, or prolonged adolescence types, who take time out in between video games to do what they see as the political equivalent of the first-person shooter. The whole “speak truth to power” veneer gives them a sense of self-righteous justification. The other justification I keep hearing is that they “played nice” with Kerry and that is why they lost. “What profits it a man to gain the world and lose his own soul”- but whatever it takes to win the election… One bitter irony there is that John McCain stood up for Kerry and condemned the swift boat ads, angering many Republicans. This is where I think McCain’s age does show, in a favorable way- my grandparents’ age knew that even if you didn’t like someone, you were polite and decent.
There simply aren’t many kind and decent people out there anymore, or at least they are not speaking up. It won’t ever change until courageous and independent-thinking people on each side start policing themselves and their own.

I am reminded so frequently of C. S. Lewis and “The Screwtape Letters” –so much casual & thoughtless evil, bandied about so reckelssly. Really reckless–no thought given, no “reckoning” of consequences. The don’t seem to care how much pain and bedevilment they cause. They seem to relish it. Savor it, like a fine wine. They seem to think they can indulge any emotion, any whim, and somehow nothing bad will come of it–for themselves. They are sowing a whirlwind. What do they expect to reap?

This is how light-filled angels turn themselves into grotesquely deformed and beast-like demons, complete with horns, cloven-hooves, and a tail. So filled and consumed with adversarial hate, so filled and consumed with things contrary to truth and love that it corrupts and destroys their very being.
Take a good look you all. This is only a preview of what is to come when the next seat on the Supreme Court opens up. I know that Sarah Palin is game. The question, however, will John McCain have lost his fighting nerve by then? Will he still have the stomach for this degree of nastiness, or will he cave in and put forth a non-controversial (i.e. pro-Roe) nominee?
Or will he see them — those he thought were his friends — for what they really are? Will he finally be willing to fight against them, will he pick them up and say “I . . . have had . . . enough . . . of you!” (in the greatest Shatnerian tradition) before throwing them into the fiery pit?

I dunno, but I’m feeling a desire to show these clowns the Wrath of a Time Lord, except I have no TARDIS. (Oh, and not a Time Lord either. Drat.)
(Then again, tossing Michael Moore into a red supergiant might increase it’s mass just enough to make it collapse into a black hole, which might annoy the neighboring systems… and I certainly don’t want him trapped on the other side of a mirror. Hmm. Might have to rethink this whole “wrath” thing.)

Others probably knew this about the left long ago, but I realized this when I watched the memorial for Senator Wellstone. Funerals are supposed to be a time to reflect on our common mortality and humanity to look back on our life to see if we have made the world better by our existence while there is still time to change. But liberals turned Wellstone’s into a political rally and an opportunity to bash their political opponents over the head. If a partisan is someone who puts the welfare of their party ahead of that of their country, what do you call someone who puts party ahead of humanity? People who do so, especially in large groups, are responsible for the darkest nightmares in human civilization — the pogroms, the genocides, the ‘revolutions’ that exterminate millions — because no sacrifice is too great to achieve their conception of the ideal society. It’s something we all need to be watchful for and oppose wherever it appears.
